Pet Peeves!

Okay, this is one girl with a long list of pet peeves!  So many things bother me.  I may not always talk about it or even do anything about it, but the irritation is there.  Just a few examples of my crazy pet peeves are: leaving a closet door open; a wet bathroom counter; not cleaning the lint filter in the dryer; labels on the canned goods not facing out; mixing up two, to and too; the list really goes on and on.  And they are really silly things, but they are my pet peeves.

For awhile now, God has been dealing with me about this.  But, being honest with you, I ignored it.  I mean, seriously, why do my pet peeves matter?  Who cares?  They are just little (okay a really long list) of things that bother me.  It has no effect on anyone else so why does it matter.  But it does matter.  It matters because I let these meaningless things upset me and take my focus off of God.  The Bible says in Hebrews 12:2, "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith."

God told me to write down a list of those little things that bother me.  So I did and it took a whole page!  Then He told me to really look closely at each item and decide if it really mattered.  The answer to each thing was no, it doesn't really matter.  It doesn't matter if my nail polish chips five hours after applying it.  And it doesn't truly matter if the dog puts a nose print on the window five minutes after cleaning it.  God wants us to keep our eyes fixed on Him at all times.  These things are not worth getting upset or frustrated about and they are surely not worth taking our focus off God even for a second.

I want to challenge you to write a list of all of your pet peeves and really look at them.  If they are not worth becoming upset about and taking your focus off of God, pray about it.  Ask God to help you not become so upset with the little things.  Believe me, He wants to help us!  He wants our focus on Him.

  1. I think it's been said, "Don't sweat the small stuff - and it's all small stuff,". We our eyes are fully set on God, these things lose their importance. I want my eyes fixed on God!

  2. I have been told too many times that I am just too uptight! I guess I know where you get it! :-) But, you are exactly right...what does it matter? Especially if it causes us to lose focus on what DOES matter and that it God! Thank you for reminding me.
