Be My Portion

"I say to myself, the Lord is my portion therefore I will wait on Him." Lamentations 3:24

As most people, I am a pretty busy person.  Between being a wife, caring for and home schooling my four children, taking care of our home, my home based business, ministries at church and so many other things, I stay busy from early morning to late night.  With all I do, I get tired.  I run out of energy very fast.  Sometimes, actually most days, I could just use an extra portion of energy.

My children, like all children, fight...a lot.  Sometimes the arguing ends up with someone getting hurt.  On top of that, normal child's play can result in injuries.  I kiss boo-boos, bandage cuts, pray for headaches, wipe noses and so much more that sometimes I can be less than compassionate.  Many times, I need an extra portion of compassion.

I get scared very easy and I do not like to be scared.  My child gets hurt or a close call on the road or a noise in the middle of the night, I can become afraid.  There are times when I need an extra portion of peace.

By myself, I am a pretty messed up person.  I need God.  I need God to be my portion.  Awhile back I just felt like I was done.  I was tired, not being nice, scared and so much more.  I just needed that extra portion to survive.  I prayed that God would be my portion that day.  For the first time in a long time, I felt like I was going to make it.  At the end of the day, I didn't feel like I needed to scream or cry my eyes out.  I felt good. Why?  Because I was allowing God to be what I couldn't be myself.  God didn't create us to do things on our own.  He created us to need Him.  I can tell the days I ask God to be my portion and the days I do not ask and try to go at it alone.

What do you need an extra portion of today?  Energy, grace, joy, the list can go on and on.  Pray and ask God to be your portion.  Don't try to live life on your own.

Oh...and did you smile today?

  1. I'm smiling now - even though I'm so tired. We can smile no matter what when we focus on God and Him to be our portion.
