God's Way vs My Way

"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" Jeremiah 29:11

Two and a half years ago my husband and I were in the process of looking for a new home to purchase.  We came across the house.  I instantly fell in love with this house.  In my eyes it was perfect.  It was in the location we wanted, price range we needed, was completely remodeled with new everything, had everything we wanted, and it was beautiful.  We even took family to see the house because we knew it was going to be our home.  We had talked to the sellers and they knew how much we wanted it.  The day we called to place our offer we were told only a couple of hours before our call, someone brought in a contract.  We lost it.  I grieved for this house.

Just this week my husband happened to drive past my house.  We have driven by a couple of times in the past two and a half years and I always felt that loss all over again.  Well, when my husband drove by this week, there was red tape surrounding the entire property and notices in the windows.  He pulled over to get a closer look and the house was empty.  Then he read the sign.  It said dangerous levels of lead poisoning were in the house.

What a God thing!  If we would have put our offer in on this house when we first wanted to it would have been ours and we would have lost it.  Possibly even gotten sick.  If we would have done it our way, we would have been putting our entire family at risk and now be without a home.  By waiting and doing it God's way, we did not put our family in such a dangerous situation and we still have our home.  No, our home is not newly remodeled everything and we are still slowly working on it.  But it is our home.  Our safe home.  And we truly love it.  God blessed us with this house.  Where I failed to see that before, I can surely see His hand now.

You see, we are like a horse with blinders.  We can only see a little bit in front of us.  But God sees the whole picture.  God tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 that He has a plan for us.  He knows the plan.  We need to wait on God and let Him lead us where He wants us.  Let's do it God's way.

  1. This gave me chills. God loves us so much and He has a plan for us. We need to wait and trust that He knows best. I want to chose God's way.

  2. I always wondered why you didn't get that house. Now we know. God sees the whole puzzle and not just a piece or two like we do. Praise His name!!!
