God's Armor

My husband works construction.  He would never dream of going out to a job site without his steel toed boots, clothing covering all of his skin, safety goggles and a hard hat.  A hair dresser would not go to cut someones hair without a brush, comb and scissors.  A teacher would not go to teach without her lesson manuals and supplies.

But we go out into this world without God's armor.  How can we survive all the attacks of the enemy without it?  We can't.

"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God."  Ephesians 6:13-17

My kids have a poster in our school area that explains the armor of God very simply and I love it!

Helmet of salvation: Knowing that you are saved protects your mind from doubts and fears and sends the devil away like a scaredy cat!

Shield of faith: Your faith shield stops all the devil's tricks!

Belt of truth: Knowing that Jesus is the truth shields you from the devil's big fat fibs!

Shoes of peace: Share God's peace everywhere you go! Always be ready to tell the good news about Jesus.

Breastplate of righteousness: Accepting that Jesus has made you right with God guards your heart.

Sword of the Spirit: The sword of the Spirit is God's Word.  Speak it in faith and watch the devil run!

Every day we will be faced with lies from satan.  That headache is a tumor.  You are over weight.  They cut you off so yell at them.  You are a failure.  No one cares about you.  Satan will try to whisper these lies to us.  If we do not have shield of faith and belt of truth, we can start to believe them.

The shoes of readiness are there to help us share the Gospel.  We should be ready at all times to step out and share Christ with others.

The breastplate of righteousness and the helmet of salvation, to know we are right with God.  How wonderful!  To know of God's saving grace for us is incredible.

Last is the sword of the Spirit.  Our lifeline.  God's Word.  Oh my Bible is so precious to me.  I could not go on a journey without a map.  I could not make a new dish without a recipe.  God's Word is our directions and our help.

Every day we should put on our full armor of God.  If it helps you to say it out loud or do the actions, then do it!  Whatever it takes to have your armor on and ready and be able to stand up against the enemy and his tricks.  Today, put on your full armor before even leaving your room!

Sweet Blessings,

  1. I love your post. We always need to remember the armour of God. We do need it to fight off satan. You are so right, he lies and he lies just to turn us away from God. Thanks for the way you explained the armour.

  3. We are foolish to try to face this world and our enemy without God's protection. His armor is not meant to weigh us down, but to help us. Thanks for this post!

  4. I love the armor of God. Just as we need the complete wardrobe of our job...we need the whole armor of God. How often we leave the house with just a piece of the armor! Lord, help me to remember to put on the WHOLE armor of God every day and not just a piece or two.

    Thank you for this reminder!

  5. I love that...I can see myself putting on my pieces of armor every morning, but that is a great idea! To go through the motions of 'actually' putting it on! That way it's in your mind and you KNOW it's there!

  8. What a wonderful post Jenifer!

My son and I play one of the online "Questing" games, and we'd never think of going into an unknown dungeon without the proper gear. Life is the same way; To properly take it on and triumph, we need God's Armor to battle Satan's lies face to face!

It sounds like a wonderful poster! I'm going to see if I can find one for my kids as well.

    Have a Blessed Day!

  9. This scripture from Ephesians 6 taught me to defend myself from the wiles of the wicked one years ago. Sometimes we forget this truth, going about our daily business open to deception and illusion. Understanding and believing that evil does exist and lying in wait to attack us, has helped me to remain conscious of his many ploys. That you Jenifer for reminding us of this truth.
