Who Do You Call On?

I am clumsy.  I fall often.  I trip over nothing.  And I fall UP the stairs.  Yep, I am a clumsy.

Wednesday night I went outside to get our recycling bins from the curb.  I hit an icy patch and slid all the way down the driveway.  Ouch!  My first reaction was to scream.  I just knew I was going to break an arm, hit my head or something really bad.  Once I finally came to a stop at the bottom of the hill and into a pile of snow, I sat there and cried.  I yelled for my husband, who was inside the house and could not hear me.  Then I yelled for my daughter, also inside the house and not able to hear.  Then I sent my husband a text.  If you knew my husband you would know that was a worthless text.  I love him dearly but the man does not answer his phone! (hugs honey) After sitting there without help for five minutes I scrambled to my feet and limped all the way to the front door.  I was hurt, wet and cold.

Once I had taken some pain medication and put on the good ole icy hot patches, I went to bed.  While I was laying there in pain, God spoke to me.  "Why did you not call out to Me?"  Ouch!  That hurt worse than the physical pain.  Here I was on my feet slipping and sliding then halfway down the hill fell on my backside and slid the rest of the way.  I called for everyone to help, except God.  After talking to God about this, I believe if I would have simply said, from the beginning, "God please help me," I would have gained my footing and not slipped and fell.

"Evening, morning and noon, I cry out in distress, and He hears me."  Psalm 55:17

So now I want to ask you.  In times of distress, who do you call out to?  Do you call for your spouse, parent, neighbor or friend?  Please do not misunderstand me.  Yes, we should feel comfortable turning to those we love.  I am constantly asking my sweet sisters for prayer.  I am so grateful God has placed them in my life.  But we should always turn to God first.  We need to turn to Him and lean on Him.

Friends, in time of trouble, turn to God.  Maybe it is a headache, fear, sick child, hard day at work, debt, argument with your spouse, whatever it is you are facing simply turn to God.  When we cry out, He hears us.

Sweet Blessings~

P.S. I am okay now!  A little sore, but okay.

  1. This was me earlier this week, only my car got stuck in the snow. I just sat there and cried and cried. I didn't cry out to God though I just cried and was MAD. Thankfully an Angel came up and helped me but I should have cried to God...I'm learning to do that too. God is our helper, our rescuer. Thank you for this :-)

  2. This post made me think of the song Jesus, Take the Wheel. There have been times in my life when the first thing I do is call out to God...mostly, sadly, I must admit that I, too, cry out to a member of the family. I pray that God will help me to always cry out to the One that is with me even when I'm alone!

    Thank you for this post.

  3. Thank you a wonderful post. If we would just remember to call out for God we wouldn't find ourselves in so much trouble. I am glad you are okay this morning but sorry you are sore, that can last several days. I do want to say the way you wrote your post I felt like it was me falling and slipping down the driveway.

  4. Here I was happily readily your post until I came to the part where God spoke to you. Ouch! Why don't we cry out to Him? I want my first reaction to be to cry out to Jesus.

  5. Excellent post, and point Jenifer. For some reason we only seem to cry out to God as a "last resort" instead of looking to Him as a first line of defense. You've given me something to think about..

    Have a Blessed Day!

  6. Oh Jenifer! I'm so sorry for your fall! I am a clumsy too and I have fallen (hard) down our hardwood stairs...twice... so I think I know exactly how you were feeling down there at the bottom of the hill! You're so right, I run to my husband or whoever's closest to help me up. Like Phil said He is sometimes our "last resort." Great thoughts, thank you for this reminder! Happy Friday sweet friend, I hope you've recovered!

  7. Thank you so much for your post! What an amazing world we live in where God can speak to someone over the internet and touch their lives so deeply. I really needed this today. I am just sorry it took you falling down to convey it to the rest of us.
    Blessings to you ~

  8. Im glad someone is as clutzy as me! (I mean that affectionately of course)! Yesterday I was moving the coffee table over and it peeled back my big toe nail. I had to wear flip flops in 30 degree weather. Gross! Its nothing a little neosporin and big band-aid wont cure!:) It wasnt long ago that God spoke those words to my heart. He said "Everytime something happens, you run to your mom to get her opinion... why dont you want to know what I think?" Its a great lesson and why not go straight to the one who stands in our past, present and future all at the same time! Great post!

  11. This spoke to me today because my husband lost his job yesterday. And like you said, the first one I should call on for help in God.

  12. Jamie, you will be in my prayers. My husband was out of work most of last year. It is only through God that we made it through. Blessings!

  13. Beautifully put, Jenifer! How quickly we pick up the phone in a crisis when our first thought should be to dial into God.

Recently our 22 year old was almost in a very bad accident with multiple cars.

As his car was spinning 360's out of control he said that he was scared to death but praying the whole time.

His car spun out of control but he didn't hit the car (that started the whole thing) and none of the others cars hit him or vice versa.

I think in big situations like that our first inclination is to pray. As you said, we need to do that in the minor situations too (not that your fall was minor).

    Glad you didn't break anything!
