People Pleaser

My sweet daughter is a people pleaser.  She comes by honestly because that is also how I am.  I dislike conflict.  I do not like people being upset with me.  My daughter and I both will put our own desires to the side to please everyone else.

It is nice to make other people happy.  There is nothing wrong with considering the feelings of other people.  Actually it is important.

By why are we people pleasers?  Is it because we fear being judged?  We do not want someone to dislike us?  We seek approval?

"Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ." Galatians 1:10

We should not be people pleasers just to win man's approval.  We should only strive to please our Lord.  Galatians tells us we can not be a servant of God if we are trying to please others.  I desire God approval far more than I do man's approval.

Are you a people pleaser or a God pleaser?
Sweet Blessings~

  1. I too am a recovering people pleaser. If I am not careful to keep my focus on Christ, I realize that I fall back into this way of life. But, it's an exhausting way to live. Much prefer the freedom of looking to Him!

  2. I want to be a God pleaser, but sometimes I am too focused on what pleasing people. It's so hard not to be moved by what people think sometimes. But like Eileen said, it is exhausting to live that way. I don't want to go around wondering if people are upset with me. I just want to focus on whether God is pleased or not.

  3. I am also an "Approval Addict" and it takes intentional effort to shift those very strong tendencies to seek God's approval instead of mans. Please people... yes... but only IF it's to please God! Great post

  4. I have always been a people pleaser. However now being in my 30's I care less and less what people think. I want to follow so hard after Jesus that maybe to the outside world I'm a little weird. That's what I strive for these days... We definately have to draw a line between compromising our beliefs and wanting people to like us.This is a great post!! Thanks for this encouragement today!

  5. I know that I too am a people pleaser myself at times. I agree with your thought; great post.
I recently read a book entitled:
Defined by Christ by Toni Sorenson This great read and I agree we need to please the Lord first.
    Blessings to you!

  6. I was born a people pleaser, but I have learned how dangerous that can be...so I strive daily to be a God pleaser first and people pleaser second. It took me many years to figure that out.

  7. I only want to be a God-pleaser! It's a hard habit to break, people-pleasing, but who has the time to please everyone all the time. I think my efforts are best spent on pleasing the only One that matters!

  8. I think we all fall into that trap upon occasion Jenifer, I know I certainly do. The interesting thing is, in my experience when we strive to please God, in many cases it makes those around us happy as well. Either way, His approval should be our focus no matter what!

    Have a Blessed Day!

  9. I totally dislike conflict too. I don't think it is so much trying to please as it is disliking any kind of descension. It is so true. The important thing is to please God. I enjoyed your blog.
