A Royal Pain

This morning I woke up at normal time and went about my normal routine.  One of the first things we do is turn on the local news.  My husband checks the traffic before leaving and I listen to the weather and news while getting ready.  This morning was different.  We still turned the news on however the news was not there.  Three out of four of our local news stations had coverage of the royal wedding.  No news.  No traffic for people leaving for work, no weather, no information on our neighbors in the southern states dealing with horrific weather, no breaking news, nothing.  We watched a woman walk down the isle for something like ten minutes.  But we couldn't find out our temperature for the day.  I wasn't angry, but a little disappointed.

I posted on my facebook that I was disappointed that I couldn't catch the news.  My dear friend commented this: I wish these people got this excited about Jesus!

That really struck me.  I have heard non stop wedding coverage between radio (even Christian radio), tv, the news headlines on my internet, everywhere I turn there is royal wedding info.  People were guessing what color the queen would wear today.  Talk over Kate's dress.  Talk over the backup plans in case it rains.  My goodness!  I even saw that there were local parties to celebrate...at 2am!

Are we this excited about Jesus?  I don't hear non stop talk about Jesus.  I don't see people getting up early to spend time with God or for special church services.  I don't hear talk about going out and reaching the lost.  But I hear about the color of a woman's dress!

I am not downing the happy couple at all.  Congrats to them both!

But I want to be this excited about Jesus.  He died for me!  He saved me!  He loves me!  People let's get excited for Jesus!  Amongst all this wedding talk, I want to go outside and shout "I LOVE JESUS!"  Will you join me outside to shout?

Sweet Blessings~

  1. You made my heart shout right now! I'm excited about Jesus today - He's all that really matters. If we want to think about the royal couple, we should be praying that the find Jesus so they can shout too.

  3. I'll never cease to be amazed by the facination we have with 'celebrities!' If only the world would get so 'facinated' with the One that created it all...

I am so thankful that my relationship with Jesus is the most important thing in my life!

  4. Amen sister! I know people who set their clocks to get up and witness the BIG event. I mean really. Do they get up to do Bible Study or spend time in prayer? Some may, but most do not I'm sure.
And this on the back side of all the poor people who've lost their homes, families, communities in the tornadoes that just came through the South...can you tell I'm just a tad bit irritated?
    I LOVE JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Wouldn't it be great to see people line the streets and really get excited about Jesus? I know this couple is special to a lot of people but what about Jesus? He is the one that died for us so that we could have life. Wouldn't it be great if everyone had a relationship with Jesus? I will join you outside and shout "I love Jesus." Blessing.

  7. Amen! Shouting from the roof-tops with you! I have purposely avoided all live media today... I have NO interest in hearing or seeing any of it. It irritates me that anyone would glorify a person/couple to such a degree... not to mention the $ being spent on such a thing. I don't know if it's true, but my MIL told me that the security alone cost 30 million. Yikes! I can't imagine being okay with spending so much money on such a frivolous thing... oopsy, I'm ranting. Have a blessed weekend :)

  8. I get up early to spend time with the Lord each day. I love Jesus, and for the rest of my days, I will work for His Kingdom.
I have no idols before Him and do not worship people.
But.... I also stayed up to watch the wedding and enjoyed every minute of it. The ceremony was very touching and sweet. Loved Kate's brother's reading of Romans 12 and the hymns. I still saw all the news I needed today and am fully versed on what happened in the rest of the world the last 24 hours. I thought the whole thing was fun and entertaining.
