Here I Am

Sunday we were very blessed to be able to visit my grandparents church.  We had a great time and were very blessed by the message.  Today I wanted to share something that really spoke to me.

We often hear of needs; whether in the church, with our family or even our neighbors.  The need of a nursery worker because one called in sick.  A meal for a sick family.  A single mom needs a sitter.  Someones car broke down and they need a ride to work.  The need of a new Sunday School teacher.  Someone to clean the church bathrooms.  The list goes on and on.  There is always a need somewhere.

What do you do when you hear of a need?  When the pastor mentions a need for a nursery worker, what do you do?  "Ok, I'll go ask sister Jane to do that."  When the pastor tells you a family is sick and could use a home cooked meal, what do you say?  "Oh, sister Martha is great at that, I'll tell her."  I know that I have passed on the work to others many times.

What about saying,
"Here I am, send me!"

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send?  And who will go for us?'  And I said, 'Here I am.  Send me!'"  Isaiah 6:8

Why are we passing the work on?  Why are we not serving ourselves?  Now please hear me.  We can not do everything on our own.  I know that.  However, when we hear of a need we should not be quick to pass it on.  We should pray about it and ask God to show us, is this something we should do ourselves or is there someone else God intends for this task.

Next time you hear of a need, instead of immediately calling on someone else, say a quick prayer asking God if this is something you should do.  I want to be available and ready when God asks something of me.  I want to say, "Here I am send me!"

Sweet Blessings~

  1. I agree, it's easy to pass it on, but we can just as easily miss an opportunity to serve in an area that God has led us to. I want to be open to doing anything He sets in my path. Blessings!

  2. Love the your thoughts today! I love this quote: "Never suppress a generous thought"

I heard a message recently that suggested that everyday you should ask to know who you can help that day. Helping others always brings blessings to us.
    Blessings to you!

  3. It's so easy to just assume that someone else will take care of it. Some people truly have that gift of service, but we can all serve in one way or another. I want to say, "here I am." Great post!

  4. I am so glad and blessed that you, Jeremy, and the kids were able to visit our church. I pray you guys will be able to come again someday really soon. I liked your post. There are so many that wait around for others to do the jobs that we could be doing to help others. We should ask the Lord daily if there is something we can do to help someone in need. Thanks for the reminder and blessings to you. Love you.

  5. Great reminder Jenifer! We were put here to serve, and not "pass the buck"!

    Have a Blessed Day!

  6. Really good, Jenifer. When I was a Pastor's wife I had to remind myself that I did not need to do everything. My husband had been the Assistant Pastor for seven years prior to that time and I had been in charge of everything pretty much and because it was a small church I DID everything pretty much. So learning not to say 'Send Me' was hard to do. So now that we are simply working in a church helping out, I have to relearn to say "Send Me". I love to work for God, it is not a chore but rather a privilege!
    Hugs, Cindy
