I'm not A.D.D., it's just that...Hey look a squirrel!

A "spiritual summer."  That is all I wanted.  A time to get closer to God instead of becoming lazy and growing farther away.  I made my plans, even wrote them out.  I knew exactly what I needed to do get closer to God this summer break.

Distractions.

I have been unusually (well, not really unusually as this happens to me often) tired lately.  We have had quite a bit of rain in the Midwest causing my hubby to have several days off work.  I love him dearly but having him home kind of throws my daily routine off a little.  Even when I do follow through with my plans, I find my mind wandering all over the place.  Not even important things, just crazy stuff.  I am so distracted right now!

A horse (no I am not distracted right now, I am going somewhere with this!) wears blinders on their eyes while out riding.  This is so that the horse does not become distracted and veer off of the path they are supposed to take.     Sometimes I wish I had blinders on my mind.  I want to focus on God.  I want to do my Bible study, pray or sing praises without my mind wandering.

Friends, I honestly believe Satan is on the attack right now.  I have talked to several people who are trying so hard to press in to God and they all say the same thing: they are distracted.

What is your distraction?  Is it a physical thing that you can remove when you are trying to be with God?  If so, move it!  I learned long ago that my cell and computer could not even be in the same room with me while I spend time with God.  It was a distraction.  Or if you are like me, right now my distraction is not physical, it is mental.  My mind just wanders.  A little secret...through Jesus Christ we have authority over Satan.  Take your thoughts captive!  Satan will only attack us and make our minds wander if we let him.

For me personally, when this happens, I close my eyes and just repeat the name of Jesus over and over.  Satan trembles and flees at His name therefore the attack is over!  Sometimes I have to do this several times in one sitting but that's okay!  I don't mind kicking Satan in the gut and I sure don't mind getting closer to God.

When you are being distracted, take authority over Satan and put your focus back on God.  Let's have a spiritual summer together!

Sweet Blessings~

  1. You and I are in the same place Jenifer... As I posted yesterday, my focus was completely shot and I felt very distant. Thankfully, we have Christ to lead us away from those situations and anchor us back in His peace.

    Wonderful post!

    Have a Blessed Day!

  2. I can't say that I am distracted, I feel like I see Him in everything around me and I am so grateful to God. Something huge, Spiritually, happened in our family recently and I am overwhelmed with the Grace and Mercy of God. He is so able to accomplish more than I can even think or imagine!!!
A dear friend of mine has recently come down with an untreatable cancer and I am praying fervently for her complete healing, that has helped to keep me very focused, I think.
    Hugs, Cindy

  6. Wow, you and Lisa are in sync today :)My husband was gone again this week and when he's gone and the kids are in bed I watch a little TV. It's hard because I don't do reality TV and it's difficult finding something I can or even want to watch. Anyway, last night as I was watching re-runs of Fraiser I noticed how "distracting" the commercials are... not just distracting, but tempting... tempting us into better bodies, get rich quick schemes, eating and traveling. I know that's marketing, right? But wow, I was just overwhelmed at how Satan can use all of that to distract us from God and tempt us into self-focus. Thank you for continuing to encourage us into a Spiritual summer... great post!

  8. WOW, satan has been busy, he got me too. Hopefully we have all tired him out and he will stay away a good long time.

In Christ we are more than conquerors.

Nothing can seperate us from the love of Christ.

    Blessings to you.

  9. Satan's hard at work! He's sent attacks from all over this week for me and it's so hard. But I have to realize that it is the enemy trying to get me to quit. I won't do it!

    Blessings,
    Mel

  10. First of all, I love your post title. How cute is that!
I agree... An effective tool Satan uses is distraction. May we flee him and seek HIM continually.
    Thank you for this post!
