Today I was reading in Matthew chapter 4 about Jesus being tempted.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.  After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.  The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”  Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.  “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”  Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
Matthew 4:1-11

I absolutely love these verses.  You see Jesus was tempted with everything we are tempted with.  Lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and pride of life.  Every temptation we face today, He faced then.  We can never say He doesn't understand.  We can never say He doesn't know what it's like.  He does!  He faced it by the devil, just as we do.

This gives me such hope and encouragement.  When we are tempted, Jesus understands so that we can run to Him for strength to fight the enemy!  We are never alone in our temptation.

What is the enemy tempting you with today?  Cigarettes when you are trying to quit?  Junk food when you are trying to eat healthy?  The understanding and smooth words of someone other than your spouse?  Whatever your temptation is, run to Jesus.  Let Him give you the strength you need to kick the enemy to the curb!

Often times I speak of my sweet sisters and my accountability group.  I have been so blessed by them.  But I know not everyone has the accountability I have been blessed with.  Woman to Woman Ministries is here to help!  Ladies, we have started the Woman to Woman Morning Reflections.  This is a private Facebook group where you can go each day to share where you are reading in God's Word and what He is speaking to you.  This group is only for the purpose of accountability and encouragement.  If you are interested, click here then at the top of the screen click the 'ask to join' link.  Remember this group is only for accountability and encouragement, not to promote any blogs, websites, giveaways, etc.

  1. Yes, Jesus was tempted just as we are. It is so amazing (for me) when I am being tempted and I just keep say Jesus' name over and over, the peace comes to me and I can talk to Him, I know He understands. What a wonderful feeling just know He is with us. I love your post, thank you.

Blessings to you and love you.

  3. And the one thing that has always encouraged me is that Jesus promises us that not only will he provide the strength to stand up to the temptation but there is always a way out!

  4. I love knowing that Jesus understands our temptations, and I also love knowing that He gives us grace. There is so much freedom in grace... we don't have to live in condemnation.

    Many blessings!

  5. This makes such strong good sense spiritually. How sad it is that we can so easily forget, and try to rely on ourselves. Thanks for this great reminder!
