Yes In My Mess

A little more than 4 years ago I felt God calling me to write. At first I laughed at God and told Him that He was crazy. Yep, I'm the woman who told GOD, the creator of the entire universe, that He was crazy. After all, I was horrible in my English classes growing up and without spell check y'all would  never know what I was saying. And thankfully this is all typed because friends, I can't even read my own handwriting!

I finally obeyed Daddy God and began to write. However, I constantly feel as though I am too messy to do this writing thing. Each Monday I post about Marriage over at Woman to Woman. I cannot tell you how many times my husband and I have had a fight learning opportunity just before I was to sit down and write. I feel as though I am a hypocrite. Sometimes I write about family or parenting and yet I feel as though I am failing as a parent.

These are are lies of the enemy. No one is perfect. I wasn't called to be perfect. I was called to say yes even in my mess. God doesn't look for perfect people to do His work. If He did, His work would never get done because none of us are perfect. He looks for those who are willing to say yes, even though they are a mess.

Just because we do the work of the Lord doesn't mean our lives suddenly become perfect. I may write to you here in this space of the world wide web, but my dogs still shed enough dog hair that I could create a whole new dog, my kids still back talk from time to time, my laundry still piles up, the bills still come, my husband and I still disagree, and I still get very moody. I'm real. But I've said yes.

What is God calling you to? Do you feel unqualified? Do you feel unworthy? Simply say yes in your mess and God will qualify the called.

Author, Mercy House founder, We Are THAT Family blogger and every day mom, Kristen Welch, shares her stories of saying yes in her mess. Through her husband's addictions, ministry hardships, motherhood, and every day struggles, Kristen feels God calling her to say a great big yes to a great big opportunity.

Kristen's new book Rhinestone Jesus is a book about her adventures through saying yes to God, even in the mess. I love Kristen's heart as she shares real struggles. She had me laughing and crying buckets of tears and she left me inspired and encouraged. She teaches us to not settle for shiny, sparkly faith, but to be bold and courageous for God.

Rhinestone Jesus is available beginning this Thursday, May 1st. But if you pre-buy by midnight April 30th, check out what you can get:

I am so excited to be giving away 2 copies of Rhinestone Jesus. To enter, simply complete each task in the rafflecopter below.

  2. Oh, how I agree. Sometimes I don't feel qualified to do this blogging thing. Thank you for the reminder that I don't have to be perfect, I just have to follow God's calling.
