MAKING HOME YOUR HAPPY PLACE

I hate clutter. Clutter feels like chaos and I do not like the feeling of chaos. Regularly my home undergoes a little purging, getting rid of things we don't use and don't need. I even declutter my iPhone. Clearing out apps I don't use, duplicate pictures or screenshots no longer needed, and I even turned off those little red bubbles because they feel like clutter constantly demanding my attention.

Clutter stops us from inviting that friend over, makes us look around our home in fear when there is a knock at the door, rushes us to shove things aside before taking that social media worthy picture, and brings a catch to our heart when we see other picture perfect homes posted. We wonder why we can't get our act together and how did we let things get this bad? In her new book Making Home Your Happy Place, Katy Joy Wells says, "Mess is expected. Clutter is optional. And neither says anything about your worth."

Katy shares a real life guide to decluttering without becoming overwhelmed. She says, "Most decluttering methods treat the surface. They chop off the visible weeds so things look better for a little while. But if the root is still there-if the soil hasn't changed- the clutter always grows back. Holistic Decluttering doesn't just chop the weeds, it pulls them out at the root. Then helps you plant something new. Peace. Clarity, Confidence. A home that feels the way you want it to."

One thing that so many of us struggle with is keeping things we might one day need. I mean, why get rid of it if we may possibly use it in two years, right? But the truth is, what do you need today? what does your today self need? More space? Peace? Katy says, "Maybe it's dishes for dinner parties that never happen. Books for quiet weekends that never come. Craft supplies for the creative version of you who's been waiting for time that never shows up on the calendar. These aren't just things. They're placeholders for dreams you're still attached to. For identities you're  not sure you're ready to let go of. And when those items accumulate, they take up not only room in your home but also emotional real estate. They whisper stories in the background, shaping how you see yourself and what you believe is possible. But here's the truth: Letting go doesn't mean giving up on who you were or who you'll become. It means making space for who you are now."
