It's the time of year when we focus on new goals. We set our One Words, New Year's Resolutions, and the like, all to prepare to better ourselves. My One Word for 2018 is joy.I am excited to focus on being more joyful this year and getting back to the joy of His salvation.

Recently my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. Getting this news was like knocking the air from me. Not only is she my Mamaw, but she is one of my very best friends ever. I have always been extremely close to my Mamaw and Papa. I literally spent the entire day crying. I feel like a little girl all over again and all I want to do is crawl up in her chair and sit with her while she holds me. I want to go back and relive all those beautiful moments with her while growing up.
In addition to her having cancer, my Papa has had cancer for a couple of years now. It is somewhere in his body, but they can't find it. On the outside he seems perfectly healthy and strong. But knowing that somewhere in his body is this horrible cancer is downright terrifying to me.
The day we got the news of my Mamaw's cancer I wanted to talk to her. So I called her. All I did was cry. And each time I've talked to her since, all I do is cry. When I got off the phone with her today, I sat in the chair crying out to God, God, I am not strong enough for this! I can't do this. I can't stop the tears. God help! Help my Mamaw! Help my Papa! Help our family! God please! God immediately reminded me of this verse:
And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you,
for My strength is made perfect in weakness."
2 Corinthians 12:9
I don't have to be strong. My Mamaw doesn't have to be strong. My Papa doesn't have to be strong. None of us have to be. God is! When we are weak, His power is made perfect.
I don't know why God chose my Mamaw or my Papa to walk this journey. I don't know why this has happened in our family. But I do know that God is still God. He goes before us. He's already there and He knows His ultimate plan. I know that He is strong when we are weak.
