POWERSHEETS & ONE WORD 2026

I have been excitedly working on my Powersheets Goal Planner and Seasons by Seasons Weekly Planner all week. Working on these things always gets me excited for the year to come. In fact, I have always shared my Powersheets Goals and One Word for the year in January. But after working on everything this week, I decided to share now!

First up, my One Word for 2026...

In 2011, after failing at New Year's Resolutions for years, I joined the One Word movement and chose just one word to focus on for the year. I have smaller goals and things I work toward, but one big word to really focus on and grow in. The first year, I didn't take it serious and don't even remember what my word was. The next year my word was intentional, the next year was heart, then pray, water, me, marriage, joy, progress, less, rooted, peace, draw near, thrive, and for 2025 it was abide. All such great words!

I have never finished a year thinking that I have mastered my word. However, I finish each year knowing I made progress in that area. I learn things about my word and create habits that help me to grow and become a better version of myself.

The other night while working on my Powersheets, I told my husband that I didn't think I was going to set a One Word for 2026. That I just wanted to focus on my five main Powersheets goals -goals that I set for every year. He looked at me for awhile, then said, "Discover." I had no idea what he was talking about so I asked him and he said, "Your word should be discover." Then he elaborated to how the word discover fits into my goals. I immediately felt a connection and became so excited to make discover my word for 2026. I'll share more below when I share my Powersheets Goals.

Now for my Powersheets Goals for 2026...

I've been using Powersheets for, I believe, ten years now. Powersheets have helped me with big picture goals like writing my devotionals and more, and Powersheets have helped me cultivate every day habits that I want to grow in. I say it every year and I'll say it again, I am a Powersheets user for life!

Each year I set five main goals that are important areas for me to grow in. Areas that I won't ever "arrive" in, but will always be able to grow in. Most years I also set a couple more goals of things I want to do, but this year I decided to stick to my five main goals. These areas are so important to me and the last six years have been full of change and even some hardship, that I just want to focus on these areas, giving them my full attention and energy.

My five Powersheets goals for 2026 are:

Faith, discover more about God.

- continue daily quiet time
- read through the entire Bible
- do in depth Bible study
- journal, using the Quiet Time Companion
- use Write the Word journals each evening
- cultivate a passionate prayer life
- work on Scripture memory

Marriage, discover more about my husband.

- pray daily for my husband
- quality time weekly
- serve my husband with joy
- love him well
- communicate clearly
- phone down, eyes up
- (my husband's idea) take each other on our dream date

Family, discover more about my family.

- pray daily for our kids and grandbabies
- get together with all of our adult kids at least once a month for something fun
- make birthdays special
- when together, phone down, eyes up
- pray daily for extended family

Health, discover more about ways to live healthy.

- drink at least 80 ounces of water a day
- walk at least 9,000 steps a day
- take vitamins and prescriptions every day
- walk or workout three times a week
- less sugar

Ministry, discover more ways to reach people for the Kingdom.

- pray over ministries
- keep up with ministries at church
- keep up with blog ministries
- write

So for 2026 I am going to discover more about God, my husband, my family, my health, and my ministries and I am so excited! 2026 is my year of discovery!

POWERSHEETS GOALS FOR 2025

Setting a New Year's Resolution has never worked for me. Just saying this is what I want to do, only gets me to about mid-January. However, about eight years ago I found something that actually works!

The Powersheets Goal Planner from Cultivate What Matters has been an incredible tool for me. It has helped me with big picture goals and every day habits. This system actually works!

The Powersheets Goal Planner walks you through a series of prep work to help you learn what matters to you, what fires you up, where you want to be at the end of the year, and where you want to be when you're 80. You learn so much about yourself through these pages!

Then, Powersheets helps you to set goals based on what matters the most to you. But even more important, Powersheets helps you to set action steps -daily, weekly, and monthly- to help you reach these goals. Then, it helps you to celebrate little by little progress. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I know this works so I am a Powersheets user for life!

My Powersheets goals are often the same from year to year because these are areas of my life that are the most important to me and I want to continue to grow and cultivate them. The six areas I am working on is my faith, marriage, family, finances, ministries, and health.

Faith - This goal goes along with my One Word, Abide.
- continue my daily quiet time
- read through the entire Bible
- do in depth Bible study
- journal, using the Quiet Time Companion
- use Write the Word journals each evening
- cultivate a passionate prayer life
- work on Scripture memory

Marriage
- pray daily for my husband
- quality time weekly
- serve my husband with joy
- love him well
- communicate clearly
- phone down, eyes up

Family
- pray daily for our kids and grandsons
- get together with all of our adult kids at least once a month
- make birthdays special, we have a fun plan for this that we are excited for
- when together, phone down, eyes up
- pray daily for extended family

Finance
- tithe regularly
- pay bills regularly
- watch needless spending
- build savings

Ministry
- pray over ministries
- keep up with ministries at church
- keep up with blog ministries
- write

Health
- drink at least 80 ounces of water a day
- walk at least 9,000 steps a day
- take vitamins and prescriptions every day
- go on a walk at least twice a week
- less sugar
- learn to make more foods from scratch, even though I make a lot of homemade food, I want to really learn how to make more of our foods from scratch (different breads, ranch dressing, pasta sauces, etc)

With each of these goals I have daily, weekly, and monthly action items to work towards and I can keep track of those on the Tending List in my Powersheets Goal Planner. Each afternoon I mark of my daily habits if I have completed them. Every Tuesday, for Tending List Tuesday, I go through my weekly habits and mark those off and then I take a look at my monthly habits. This helps me see how I am coming and allows me to celebrate small steps, and shows me where I need to get busy working.

The Powersheets system is like having a life coach in my pocket at all times cheering me on for progress made and encouraging me to keep going.

MY WORD FOR 2025

After failing at New Year's Resolutions for years, in 2011 I joined the One Word movement and chose just one word to focus on for the year. I have smaller goals and things I work toward, but one big word to really focus on and grow in. The first year, I didn't take it serious and don't even remember what my word was. The next year my word was intentional, the next year was heart, then pray, water, me, marriage, joy, progress, less, rooted, peace, draw near, and last year was thrive. All such great words!

I have never finished a year thinking that I have mastered my word. I never will. However, I finish each year knowing I made progress in that area. I learn things about my word and create habits that help me to grow and become a better version of myself.

So on to my word for 2025...

Abide!

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the
branch cannot bear fruit by itself,
unless it abides in the vine, neither
can you, unless you abide in Me.
John 15:4 ESV

I desire to grow closer to God. To live in Him, to remain in Him, to obey Him, to know Him more. I want to abide in Him and bear the fruit He has for me.

Abiding is...

Connecting with Him. This means to spend time with God by reading and studying the Bible, having a prayer life, and worshiping Him. To have a daily connection with God. I don't want my Bible reading or study to become mundane. I don't ever want to feel as though "I know that, so I can skim it." I want to passionately dive into the Word of God and learn and grow. I want a passionate prayer life where I talk and listen to God throughout the day. And I want to worship Him with all my heart. I once had a mature lady at church tell me that she is a little more conservative in her worship at church in front of people. Then she said, "But oh Jenifer, you should see me at home!" When we connect with God through the Word, prayer, and worship, we abide in Him.

Obeying Him. We are to obey God. Period. It doesn't matter if He has called us to a big move across the country, a new job, or giving our last fifty dollars to a family in need, we are to obey. It doesn't matter if He tells us to buy the coffee for the car behind us at the coffee shop, make dinner for an elderly neighbor, or babysit a single mom's kids so she can have a free night, we are to obey. And it doesn't matter if He tells us to turn off a TV show we shouldn't be watching, give up a food we enjoy, or rest more, we are to obey. When we are careful and intentional with obeying Him, we abide in Him.

Accept the pruning. The pruning is hard. No one likes to be disciplined. No likes to be put in their place. But sometimes, that is exactly what God has to do with us. He doesn't do it as this big, mean guy asserting His way. He does it as a loving Father who knows what is best for us and knows that the pruning will help us to flourish and grow into what He has for us. When we accept His pruning, we abide in Him.

But whoever keeps His word, in him
truly the love of God is perfected. By this
we may know that we are in Him: whoever
says he abides in Him ought to walk
in the same way in which He walked.
1 John 2:5-6 ESV

This is how I want to grow this year. I want to abide in Him. I want to grow good fruits He has for me.

IT'S POWERSHEETS LAUNCH DAY!

I have been a fan of Cultivate What Matters for years. I found this company eight years ago (I believe it was) and immediately felt a connection. The ladies of Cultivate were so bright and energetic that it was impossible to not love them. When I decided to give their biggest product, the Powersheets Goal Planner, a try, I was amazed.

Powersheets have been a huge part of my life ever since. This goal planner is so much more than just another planner. It's like having a life coach in your pocket. Powersheets help you find out who you are and what matters the most to you. Then, through action steps, it helps you create a plan that works best for you in your season of life. Next, it helps you celebrate little by little progress.

Powersheets have been instrumental to me in writing all four of my devotionals and in my every day life with daily habits I want to create. I am absolutely a Powersheets user for life!

Then a couple of years ago, this favorite company of mine created the Seasons by Seasons Planner. They had another homerun with this product. This is by far the best planner I've ever used, and I've used a lot. They offer a daily edition and a weekly addition, both spiral bound. I love how both editions have the hourly blocks of time, making it perfect for scheduling day to day life.

In addition to the Powersheets Goal Planner and Seasons by Seasons Daily/Weekly Planner, they offer so many great accessories to make planning easy and fun. I love the tending tape (washi), the beautiful stickers, and all the pouches!

The pencil pouch and accessory pouch even have a strap on the back to attach to your Powersheets or Seasons by Seasons. And this year, there are not one, not two, but seven different sticker books to help you add pops to your planners.

This year they have five Powersheets covers and two Seasons by Seasons covers, and I have to tell you, out of all the years I've been using these products, this year was the hardest to choose a cover. I normally know immediately which cover I want and this year I went back and fourth between two Powersheets covers and both Seasons by Seasons. They are all just so beautiful!

The new 2025 collection launches TODAY at 10:00am EST. You can get all the tools you need to make 2025 organized, productive, and amazing! To shop this beautiful new collection, click HERE. And be sure to use code JENIFERMETZGER for 10% off your order.

ONE WORD 2024

If you've been with me for a few years, you have likely heard some of my story. I even wrote a devotional sharing some of what I've been through. Nearly six years ago, my mother-in-law suddenly passed away. Four and a half years ago my grandfather faced a medical emergency and was on life support; he got better and was back home. A few months later, my uncle suddenly passed away. Four years ago, on Christmas morning, my grandfather passed away. Two years ago, one of my best friends lost her battle with cancer, and two weeks later, my grandmother passed away. Throughout all of this, my once very tight-knit family became distant and the relationships were rocky. Then in 2022, my grandson was born with a heart defect, one that wasn't caught until we almost lost him. He had open heart surgery at one month old.

That's a lot. It's heavy. It's hard. It will rock you to the core. I felt as though every time I was finally bouncing back from grief and depression, something else would come. Losing my grandparents who were my best friends, biggest cheerleaders, and strongest prayer warriors shook my world more than I ever thought possible. Watching my grandson lie there lifeless, hooked up to more monitors than I had ever seen, terrified me. Seeing my daughter hurting and scared, broke me.

Life has been good in so many areas and I feel so blessed. In other areas, I feel like I am barely surviving.

In early December, I was praying about my word for 2024 asking God if there was an area He wanted me to focus on. As I prayed, driving down the highway alone, a song came on the radio. The volume was low, I could barely hear it. Yet, when this song came on, it was as though the volume was high. It immediately caught my attention and that is when I knew my word.

One Word 2024

In 2014, Casting Crowns released a new album, Thrive. The title track became one of my favorites. Soon after, Mark Hall, Casting Crowns front man, wrote a book by the same name. I read the book and it ministered deeply to me. A few weeks ago when Thrive came on the radio, the line that struck me and sent shivers down my spine was:

We know we were made for so much more than ordinary lives
It's time for us to more than just survive
We were made to thrive

God didn't intend for me to barely survive. He gave me this life to thrive; to prosper, to flourish. If I am not thriving, I am not living as God created me to live.

I am ready to thrive.

Casting Crowns song, Thrive, is based on Jeremiah 17:7-8. This verses tells us that we are to be like a tree planted by the water, growing deep roots, and not having fear or worry. If I am going to thrive, I need to be in the Word, trust in God, worship Him, live out faith, and grow my roots deep in Him. I need to be rooted so deeply in Him, that when trials and struggles come, I can still trust Him. I can still thrive.

So how will I thrive? How will I grow in this area?

When I plan out my Powersheets goals, my faith is always one area I work on. And the last few years my word of the year has had to do with my faith. Why? Because we will never "arrive" in our Christian walk this side of heaven. There is always room to grow. There is always more to learn.

To thrive this year, I plan to:
• continue in my daily quiet time
• journal throughout my quiet time
• do a Write the Word journal daily
• memorize Scripture, I would like to memorize at least two new Scriptures each month
• read a devotional and Scripture passage before bed
• re-read Mark Hall's book Thrive
• read my devotional, 5-Minute Devotions for Worry -these are things God taught me through my darkest days
• on days grief strikes, allow myself to sit in that grief for a moment, but to not park there too long
• to put my faith into practice
• to live in hope

I was made for more than an ordinary life. I was made for more than just to survive. I was made to thrive.

What is your word for 2024?

I'll be back tomorrow with my Powersheets goals for 2024, join me!

LOOKING BACK ON MY WORD FOR 2023

Happy New Year friend! I pray you holidays were blessed.

In 2023, my word of the year was actually a phrase: draw near. Using James 4:8, I wanted to draw near to God.

Looking back on my word for 2023

To draw near to God, my plans were to:

- continue my daily quiet time
- read through the entire Bible
- do in depth Bible study
- journal
- use Write the Word journals daily
- cultivate a passionate prayer life
- read a devotional and Scripture before bed
- work on Scripture memory

While I do feel as though I had growth in this area and I sought to draw near to God, this is a goal that you will never "arrive" in. There will always be room to grow and we should continually seek to draw near to God.

Two areas I struggled with is before bed devotional and Scripture reading and Scripture memorization. I started the year strong with doing a "mini" quiet time before bed, but soon fell back into the old routine of reading novels or playing games on my phone. As for Scripture memory, I completely failed in this area. I am excited to be working on Scripture memorization this year with Woman to Woman's January Scripture Memory Challenge!

In addition to my word of the year, my Powersheets goals were my faith, marriage, family, finances, ministry, and health. I feel there was growth in these areas, but again, there will always be room to grow. I am thankful for the growth I did make.

Specifically in my health. I was going to the gym 4-5 days a week. It became a really good daily habit and I begin to feel so much better. I even worked up to one mile on the elliptical -this machine used to kill me only one minute in. I was doing really good with getting in 100 ounces of water a day, keeping up on vitamins and medications, and was averaging 10,500 steps every single day. I felt great and I proved to myself I could do it.

I stayed strong in this goal from January 1st until the end of October. My schedule with watching my grandsons changed and instead of adjusting my gym time or workouts, I just quit. Once I quit working out, it felt as though everything else unraveled. I am disappointed in how I finished the year out with this goal, especially after realizing I could do it.

There you have it! My word of the year and Powersheets goals all had growth, and I learned so much about my goals and myself. But, there is still lots of room for growth.

What about you? Did you have growth in your word or goals last year? How do you feel you did?

Over the next couple of days I will be sharing my One Word for 2024 and my Powersheets goals! Join me!

ONE WORD 2023 & POWERSHEETS GOALS

I love the new year! There may not be anything magical about January 1st, but to me there is something so fresh and special about the new year. A few weeks ago I finalized my One Word and Powersheet goals and I am so excited for this year!

In 2022, my One Word was peace. I wanted to seek the peace of God. While I do feel as I grew in that area, I never feel as though I arrive with my One Words because I believe there is always room for growth. My Powersheet goals were my faith, marriage, family, health, finances, ministries, friendship, and fun. Again, I definitely made progress in these areas and cultivated good things, but I believe there is still room to grow.

That leads me to my One Word and Powersheets goals for 2023! Drumroll please....

One Word 2023 & Powersheets Goals #powersheets #goals #OneWord #2023

My word for 2023 is two words actually: draw near. In 2022, our women's ministry at church had a focus of drawing near to God. This theme really resonated with me so I wanted to continue with it in 2023.

I want to draw near to God in every area of my life. I want to know Him, feel Him, and see Him. I want to feel Him draw near to me, and as James 4:8 says, in order to feel Him draw near, I have to draw near.

So in 2023 I will work on drawing near to God. My plan to do this is to:
- continue my daily quiet time
- read through the entire Bible
- do in depth Bible study
- journal
- use Write the Word journals daily
- cultivate a passionate prayer life
- read a devotional and Scripture before bed
- work on Scripture memory

Drawing near to the Lord, to come closer to, to approach, is always beneficial, it's always a blessing, and it always has an eternal reward.

One Word 2023 & Powersheets Goals #powersheets #goals #OneWord #2023

In addition to my One Word of drawing near, I also set six goals to work on using my Powersheets Goal Planner.

My Powersheets goals are often the same from year to year because these are areas of my life that are the most important to me and I want to continue to grow and cultivate them. The six areas I am working on is my faith, marriage, family, finances, ministries, and health.

One Word 2023 & Powersheets Goals #powersheets #goals #OneWord #2023

Every Tuesday for Tending List Tuesday, I go through my weekly habits and mark those off and then I take a look at my monthly habits.

One Word 2023 & Powersheets Goals #powersheets #goals #OneWord #2023

Using the Powersheets Goal Planner helps me to keep track of how I am doing. I can see my progress, celebrate the wins no matter how small they may be, and see where I am not making progress so that I know I need to work on that particular goal.

I keep my Powersheets Goal Planner on my desk, but will often carry it with me to the kitchen. I love how Powersheets have helped me through the years. They've helped me with big picture goals like writing my devotionals, and with every day habits.

There you have it! My One Word for 2023 and my goals using my Powersheets Goal Planner! I am excited for 2023 and ready to grow good things this year!

FEBRUARY POWERSHEETS

Powersheets have been a huge help to me the past five or so years. This beautiful goal planner has helped me with big picture goals and every day habits.

I have my goals for the year, then each month I set daily, weekly, and monthly action items to help me reach those goals. This year, my eight goals are to grow in my faith, marriage, family, finances and home, ministry and work, health, friends, and fun.

January didn't go quite as planned. My husband and I spent half the month very sick. So I didn't get my steps in every day nor did I get to go on walks. One of my monthly action items was to read two books for fun, not for the purpose of reviews. I didn't get to that either. As for the rest of my action items, I made great progress! I am pleased with January and ready to tackle February!

My February action items are:

• Faith
Daily - Start and end my day with Jesus. Do Write the Word journal daily.
Weekly - none
Monthly - Memorize Psalm 4:8.

• Marriage
Daily - Pray for my husband.
Weekly - Ask my husband what I can do to serve him during the week.
Monthly - Spend quality time together.

• Family
Daily - Pray for my family.

POWERSHEETS & GOALS FOR 2022

Yesterday I shared my One Word for 2022, and while I have one big area I want to focus on, I also have goals to work toward. For this, I use Powersheets.

I've been using the Powersheets Goal Planner from Cultivate What Matters for about five years now and love it! This goal planner helps me really dig in and find what matters most to me in each season of life and helps me cultivate those things with little by little progress.

Powersheets were instrumental in the writing of Joyful, Patient, Faithful and Gratitude Mom Devotional! It has also helped me with every day habits.

Here are my Powersheets goals for 2022!

• Faith - Cultivate a passionate prayer life • Start and end my day with Jesus • Read the Bible daily • Write the Word journal daily • Memorize Scripture

• Marriage - Pray daily for my husband • Love my husband well • Serve him with gladness • Date regularly

• Family - Pray daily for my family • Get together often • Laugh together

• Finances/Home - Tithe regularly • Keep up on bills • Save money • Watch needless spending

• Ministry/Work - Pray for those I minister with and to • Write • Regular blog posts • Keep up with blog social media • Keep up with church ministries

• Health - 9000 steps daily • 80 ounces of water daily • Vitamins daily • Watch sugar intake

• Friends - Pray for others • Reach out • Send cards of encouragement

• Fun - Enjoy lake days with my husband • Relax • Read for fun • Laugh more

Each month I will set monthly, weekly, and daily action items to help me toward these goals, though some of my goals won't have all three. Since my Powersheets goals are mostly habits to cultivate, my action items from month to month are often similar. Here is a look at January!

ONE WORD 2021 & 2022

After failing at New Year's Resolutions for years, in 2011 I joined the One Word movement and chose just one word to focus on for the year. I have smaller goals and things I work toward, but one big word to really focus on and grow in. The first year, I didn't take it serious and don't even remember what my word was. The next year my word was intentional, then heart, pray, water, me, marriage, joy, progress, less, and rooted. All such great words!

I have never finished a year thinking that I have mastered my word. I never will. However, I finish each year knowing I made progress in that area. I learn things about my word and create habits that help me to grow and become a better version of myself.

In 2021 my One Word was ROOTED. I wanted to end the year rooted deeply into the Word of God. To work towards this, I continued with my daily Bible reading and prayer time, but I also worked on being more consistent with using my Write the Word journals daily, reading a Scripture verse and devotional before bed, and worked on some in-depth Bible studies. I have learned to start and finish my day with Jesus, as well as meet Him in pockets throughout the day. I haven't mastered this or "arrived" but I know my roots have grown deeper and deeper. For this, I am grateful.

That leads us to 2022! So what is my word for 2022?

My focus word for 2022 is PEACE!

The past couple of years have been difficult for me. There has been so much change in my life -some good, some indifferent, and some bad. There has also been so much loss. I have struggled with anxiety and depression for the first time in my life (this is something I will share more about in the coming months). I am ready for peace.

If you had asked me what peace was when my kids were little, or even just a year ago, I would have said peace was a quite and clean house with candles burning while I snuggle with a blanket and good book. I would also say peace was basking in the sun with sand between my toes while I listen to nothing but the waves crashing on the shore. Those both sound glorious right? However, today I wouldn't say this is peace.

After struggling with such a hard season, I know that peace has nothing to my location, the state of my home, or even the noise level. Instead, peace has to do with my heart. And the only way my heart will be at peace is by seeking true peace from the Lord.

Yes, snuggling in with a blanket and good book with a clean house and candle burning is wonderful and relaxing. Yes, lounging on the beach watching the waves race in and out is heavenly. Yes, swaying in a hammock as the birds quietly chirp around is incredible. However, the peace that comes from these things only lasts a moment. My soul yearns for true and lasting peace, peace from God.

How will I focus on peace in 2022? Simple. I will seek Jesus.

Continue to dig my roots in deep. I will continue with my daily Bible reading and prayer. I will continue to do my Write the Word journal each day. And I will continue to read a Scripture verse and devotion before bed. I want to continue to start and end my day with Jesus as well as meet Him in pockets throughout my day. If He is my true peace, I must be with Him.

Scripture memory. Each month I will choose a new Scripture verse about peace to memorize. For the entire month I will focus on that verse as I let it sink deep into my heart and mind.

Go to God. In those moments when fear, anxiety, and depression try to sneak in -and they do- I will work on not giving in and instead go to God.

Seek Him in creation. I love nature, I love God's creation. I can always feel God's presence when I am in nature. I started walking last year and love it, especially when I get to walk near the lake. The key is to make sure I am enjoying being in His presence and not trying to find peace from the world. This means I need to put my phone away and invite Him to be with me.
