Doers

"Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves.  Do what it says." James 1:22

So you read the Bible.  That's great.  But that's not all.  James tells us that we need to be doers of the Word.  We can read the Bible cover to cover but if we are not applying it to our lives, we are deceiving ourselves.

We are read "slow to anger" but are we practicing that or do we get angry quickly? (Exodus 34:6, Numbers 34:18)

We read "love your neighbor as yourself" but how neighborly are we really? (Leviticus 19:18, Matthew 5:43, Matthew 22:39)

We read "pray continually" but how often to we really pray? (Colossians 1:9)

Friends, let's read the Bible but more important, let's take action and be doers.  I want to be a doer of the Word!

Sweet Blessings~

  1. Being doers of the word is a command not a calling...you are so right! We need to not only read the Bible but we have to give it a chance to sink into our actions, thoughts, and words! Don't you just love the book of James!? Have a great day!

  2. If we would just obey what is in the Bible we wouldn't have quite so much trouble in our lives. The Bible tells us to be doers but like you asked, how many of us are doers? Thanks for the reminder. Have a great day and blessings to you.

  3. We are commanded to obey - to do what the Word says. I want to live out what I read in the Bible.

  4. I want to be a doer as well! It is so easy to have quiet time in the morning, and then move on with the day without putting into action what I just read. Thanks for this reminder.

  5. The more we apply the lessons and laws the Bible teach us in our everyday lives, the closer to Christ's footsteps we tread. Thank you for the reminder!

    Have a Blessed Day Jenifer!

  7. We must put feet to our 'doings.' We can say all day that we are a doer...but if we don't put feet to what we 'do,' we aren't really doing! Great reminder.

  8. You are right, I need to put what I read into action, every day. It is my prayer that I can do that.
