Dead Sea vs Sea of Galilee

If we eat and eat and eat yet never get up and move, what happens?  Right, we gain weight and are generally unhealthy.  We take in food and in turn we need to move and exercise.

This is similar to many Christians.  We go to church and think 'what can I get out of it' or 'what can God do for me.'   We consume and consume, but are we giving back?  Are we serving?

Sea of Galilee
The Sea of Galilee takes in water from the Jordan River, then in turn it gives out water as the water continues to run through it and into the Dead Sea.  However, the Dead Sea takes in water but does not give any out therefore making it 'dead.'

If we are not giving back, serving God, the church and others, than we can become 'dead.'  We need to 'take in' God and then let God flow through us.

Do you want to be the Sea of Galilee or the Dead Sea?  Are you ready to step out and serve?  Or are you happy staying stagnant?

Sweet Blessings~

  1. Great illustration! We were talking about this the other day. Most of us have taken is so much of the Word but we don't always let it flow out of us. God's love should be flowing in us and through us. That's what keeps us healthy and alive.

  3. Ha! Just said this over at Lisa's blog in her comment section. Serving is one way we know we are continuing to grow in Christ and how we show God's love to others. Great reminder.

  4. Hi Jenifer,
I definitely want to be the Sea of Galilee. Serving is what I am here to do, and do it I must! Thanks for the sweet reminder today. I shall ask God what I can do today to "serve" Him and be ready to do it!
