Helping Hands

Today I am posting a Marriage Monday over at Woman to Woman.  We are talking about taking care of the master bedroom.  Drop by and share your thoughts.

We do not serve to convert.  We serve because we have been converted. ~Bobby Hawk

Yesterday Jeremy and I had the pleasure of visiting the church of an old friend.  When he said the above quote, my eyes popped wide open and I wanted to shout, "yes!"

So many times we choose to serve just to "convert" people to Jesus.  Then when they do not respond how we would like them to, we become disappointed, sometimes angry, and we often give up.  This is the wrong way to look at serving.

We should serve others just because it is the right thing to do.  Serving because Jesus served.  Because we have already been "converted" to a life of Christ.  And while we are serving, others will see our hearts and this is what leads them to Christ.

Today, how can you be the helping hands to someone?  How can you serve?

Sweet Blessings~

  1. What a neat post, Your are absolutely right. I like the quote 'We do not serve to convert. We serve because we have been converted'. Thanks for the reminder and blessings to you, Jenifer.

  2. I have been thinking along these same lines, Jenifer. Too many times we only care about the converted, but that's not how Jesus lived. He lived among the uncoverted. And He called the unsaved, then discipled them. We shouldn't look down on anyone; Jesus died for us all.

  3. Well, I don't even have to leave the house for this! I know I've said what a crazy, busy time this is in our lives... my husband IS stress busting at the seams and I need to serve him... to be kind, compassionate, gentle and meet his needs without complaint. I need to be his helpmate in every way... how I behave right now means everything in my ministry to him. Thanks for the encouragement :)

  4. Great quote Jenifer, and a wonderful point. Our desire to serve needs to strictly be for God's Glory, and specifically intentioned to try and "recruit" people to Christ. However, when those around us see God's Light in our actions, then they may be led to His Side as well.

    Have a Blessed Day!
