Smile!

Last night in Bible study we were talking about welcoming new people into the church and just welcoming people in general.  When you speak to someone body language is 55% of what they catch, your tone of voice is 38% and your words are only a mere 7%.  While our words are important, it is clear that our body language, our smile and eye contact, is most important.

This is a repost from September 14, 2010:

"...to God, my joy and my delight." Psalm 43:4

"Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior." Habakkuk 3:18

One of my few...okay, okay, my many...character faults is I do not smile enough. Often my husband will ask me what is wrong when absolutely nothing is wrong. He asks because I was not smiling. I do not like to look at pictures of myself because I seem to never be smiling, even though I know I was happy at the time of the picture.

When we have Christ in our hearts, we have His joy. Joy in the good times and joy in the bad times. Joy knowing He is there with us. With Christ by our side we have no reason to frown. Even if trouble comes our way, it's okay! God is with us and has His hand on us. We have the promise of a future with Him. So, why frown?

Have you ever heard that a smile is contagious? It is! Give those you see the gift of a smile and most of the time, they will smile back. When you find it difficult to smile, ask God to be your joy and smile anyway! Today I challenge you to simply smile. When someone cuts you off on the road, smile. When your spouse is moody, smile. When the kids do not want to get out of bed, smile. When the dishes need done, smile. When your boss gives you an extra load at work, smile. When someone spills something, smile. Smile in all things!

Sweet Blessings~

  1. Hi Jenifer. Thanks for the reminder to put a smile on my face. It does make a difference, to me and whoever may be in the way of that smile!

  2. I'm guilty of not smiling enough, but shouldn't our faces reflect the attitude of our hearts? If our hearts are full of God's love, then I think we would smile more. I want to be so filled up with Him that I can't help buy smile. :)

  3. I love your words, "When we have Christ in our hearts, we have His joy. Joy in the good times and joy in the bad times. Joy knowing He is there with us." What comfort! Knowing what Christ did for us is certainly reason to smile. Knowing this life isn't all there is...even more reason! Great post!!:)

  6. Clicking over from Jen's. I wonder about this a lot...when I meet people do I have a welcoming spirit? Usually, I say yes, but lately all my stuff has got me a little preoccupied. Way to help remind me to reshift my focus back to others.

  7. Wonderful repost Jenifer!

One of the best way to show those around us the Love of Christ within us is to make it obvious through our demeanor and expressions. Smiling is a great sign to others that we have God's Joy in our hearts.

    Have a Blessed Day!
