What Is At The Heart Of Your Worship?

Recently there was a video going around Facebook about the wrong kind of worship. It received some laughs and a few amens, but today I want you to really listen to it.  Really pay attention to what they are saying:

Far too often we let this become our worship.  "I will only sing of Your love on Sundays and this feeling is gone by Monday."  "I surrender some. Jesus I will give You little."   "How great is this song. Man I love to sing."  Is that what we are doing?  Are we only singing of His love on Sundays, then living our own life the rest of the week?  Are we doing it for show?  Are we giving Jesus as little as possible?

That is not true worship.

I want my worship to always be pure and from the heart.  I want to to reach up and touch the heart of God, not make Him roll His eyes at me.

There is another song that says it best and I purposely did not include a video to this one because I want you to read the words.  Really let it sink into your heart.  Is this the kind of worship You want?  Is this the kind of worship you've had?  How is this different to the above song?  This is true worship:

When the music fades
And all is stripped away
And I simply come
 Longing just to bring
Something that's of worth
That will bless your heart

I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the ways things appear
You're looking into my heart

I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about
YouAll about You, Jesus
I'm sorry Lord for the thing I've made it
When it's all about
YouIt's all about You Jesus

King of endless worth
No one could express
How much You deserve
Though I'm weak and poor
All I have is Yours
Every single breath

I'll bring You more than just a song

For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart

I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You
All about You, Jesus
I'm sorry Lord for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You
It's all about You Jesus

Its all about You
Jesus

The heart of worhsip is all about Jesus.  About full and complete surrender to Him.  It's not about showing off.  It's not about partial surrender.  It's not even about the musicIt's about praising Him, giving it all up to Him.

What has been at the herat of your worship?

Sweet Blessings~

  1. Oh my... I had not seen this one yet, that's great! Sadly true for many. Heart of Worship is one of my absolute favorite songs! At the heart of my worship has been letting the Truth of His sovereignty sink in to me. Embracing that He is in control when I feel so out of control... when I do that I relax because I know that I am in His hands and it's the safest place to be :)Great post Jenifer!

  2. Jennifer, great post. When we look at biblical examples of worship, they didn't even need a band or sing for that matter; they just fell at His feet saying, "You alone are worthy!" Any worship, musical or otherwise, that doesn't have humility and complete surrender and submission to God isn't really worship at all.

  3. We should worship God with the way we live, not just the songs we sing. I want to live my life in worship to my King. Great post!

  4. Wow! I never saw that video, sad but so many live that way. Casual. Sundays should just be the gravy added on top of the worship and study done during the week. Not that I always get it right but I know that's what God wants from me. Instead of what I think about my worship, I try to think about what God thinks of my worship... That keeps my mind and heart in alignment with His! Great one!

  5. You are so right! We so often Worship God on Sunday and not worship God in our everyday life. We need to worship Him in all areas of our life.

  8. Stopping by from the Ultimate Blogging Bash!

This is such a great post, and such a wonderful reminder as to what real worship is, and what it looks like. I also hadn't seen the video but it's something I'm going to share. Thank you for sharing!

  9. Worship isn't an activity, it's a way of living our lives that glorify our Lord and Savior. For those who practice "Sunday Christianity", they're missing out on an amazing, intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father... There's so much more!

    Great post Jenifer!

    Have a Blessed Day!

  10. It's all about HIM. I hear you my friend, we sang that song in two different places on Sunday and it was really speaking to me, and you are repeating it today, I'm listening.
    Thanks Jenifer.

  13. Most times our worship is based on our circumstances...may it never be! Only true, heartfelt worship of our Mighty Creator should leave our lips...if we don't mean it, don't say it!
