The Money Dream

My dreams are weird. I mean really weird. When I fall asleep at night, my brain just goes all out bonkers. Even my children giggle and joke about my dreams.

The other night I had a dream that, while not as wild and far-fetched as some, was a little silly. Yet it had me thinking for the days to come.
One day my children and I go on a walk through the neighborhood. As we are walking along the sidewalk, we come to neighbor's home where there is a twenty dollar bill stuck in the gate, as though my neighbor has dropped it. I look at it and decide to pick it up. My daughter asks if I am picking it up to take it up to the neighbor. I inform her that no, I found it so I am keeping it, it is rightfully mine. She looks doubtful but walks on. As we continue our walk, I look down in my hand at the twenty dollar bill, only it is no longer a twenty dollar bill. It is now three five dollar bills. I think for a moment that I am going crazy, but I continue walking. Another few houses have gone by and I look down again. This time the three five dollar bills have become two. I thought perhaps I have dropped one, yet I know my grip on these bills was tight. Nothing I can do, so I continue walking along. After a couple of minutes I look down again and a single five dollar bill is left. Now I know I am losing either money or my mind. But then I hear a voice from above that tells me it was never my money. If I am willing to rob someone of money, I am going to lose it. I realize my mistake and turn around to run back to the neighbor to return what was left. Once I arrive at the gate, I look down and the bill in my hand is once again a twenty. I return it.
This dream may sound a little off the wall. But it had me thinking of our tithes and offering.

We work hard for our paycheck. We spend countless hours pouring over our profession so that we can earn money to care for our families and pay our debts. We deserve that money. But if we are not willing to pay God what is His, we can lose what we have.

I've heard preacher after preacher and testimony after testimony sending out challenges to tithe, out of obedience and with a joyful heart, for three months and see what God does. And I can attest to the challenges!

For years my husband and I struggled with tithing. A few years ago we decided we were going to obey and tithe no matter what happened. No matter how little or how much money we had, we will tithe. Now, we are most definitely not 'rolling in the dough' by any means. We still struggle from time to time with our finances. But I know that God has greatly blessed us. We have a roof over our head, food to eat each day, clothes to wear, water to shower with, and many other needs met. When we are faithful to God, He is faithful to us.

If we are willingly obeying God with our tithes, He wants to bless us. He wants to met our needs. I want to have open hands that joyfully give so that my hands are open and ready to receive His blessings, financial or otherwise.

We should desire to obey God in all ways, including our finances. He has blessed you with a way to make money, so how can you not thank Him by giving back?

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house.
Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates
of Heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."
Malachi 3:10

  1. Weird dream, and great application. God has His ways of reaching us, doesn't He? I understand the struggle...it is a battle for trust. Still learning here.

  2. That's very good Jenifer, and so important to remember. We must never rob God. Our health and everything else that God provides us in life is far more important than a few dollars that can literally disappear in our tightly clutched hands.
I think your dream is very profound! If that had been my dream the money would have turned into a leash with a dog on the end of it or some ridiculous thing such as that. :)

  3. Jenifer, I found this message rather timely with where my thoughts have been lately. I've been spending time thinking about whether or not I trust Him fully to provide for us financially and if I could be tithing more or giving more to those in need. Thank you for sharing with us. It was a message I needed.
