Live in Light

This is the message which we have heard from
Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no
darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, 
and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

1 John 1:5-6

We know that God is light. We know it, there is no question about that. But do we pay close attention to the verse above? It says that in Him there is no darkness at all. None. Light and dark cannot possibly mix.

So if we say we know God and live in the light, why do we do things that are of the darkness? Why do we watch tv shows and movies that we know are not of the light? Why do we listen to music that portrays darkness? Why do read things of darkness? Why do we lie, cheat or steal? Even those "little" (which are really not little to God) things like a little white lie or cheating on our taxes or stealing an office supply from work, those are still sins and put us into the darkness.

We can't have both. We can't ride the fence. We either live in light or live in darkness. There is no in between here. It's time we as Christians re-evaluate our lives. What darkness do we need to get rid of?

Today, take time and ask God to reveal to you any darkness you've been living in. Then intentionally turn your back on it. Then commit to memory the verse above. Any time the enemy tries to tempt you with that darkness again, recite the verse and stand firm in light.

You Light My Lamp

I do not see well in the dark at all. I try to avoid driving in the dark because I simply cannot see well. I hate walking into a dark room because my eyes do not adjust to the darkness like they should. Darkness is not my friend.

Just as physical darkness is hard, spiritual darkness is worse. When we go through life without God, it is like driving at night with no headlights or streetlamps.

We cannot fully live without God; without His presence and without His Word. We need His guidance. Thankfully, we have a Father who lights our lamp.

For it is You who light my lamp;

the Lord my God lightens my lamp.

Psalm 18:28

Stop trying to live on your own. Let God light your way.

Light & Dark

Son, purifies us from all sin.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the

truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just

and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be

a liar and His Word is not in us.

We say we are living in God, yet we continually watch television shows and movies that don't honor Him. We listen to music that doesn't glorify His name. We say things that break His heart. And we treat others in hurtful ways.

We are deceiving ourselves. 

The Word tells us that there is no way to walk in light and darkness at the same time. God is light and in Him there is no darkness. We have to make a choice. What do you choose?

His Word also tells us that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us and cleanse us.

It's time to throw off the darkness and live fully for God. It's time to live in the Light.
