His Beautiful Presence

Have you ever sat down to spend time with God and the words just wouldn't come?  You did not know what to pray.  Maybe I am the only one, but yes I have had times when I sit down to pray and I just feel at a total loss for words.  For a long time that made me feel as if I were doing something wrong.  I mean we should know how to talk to our Father, right?

Think about this, you go out for coffee with a dear friend and from the very moment you sit down your friend talks non stop.  They tell you all about their day, marriage, how the kids are excelling in this or that, then how the kids are misbehaving, they just talk about everything.  When you finally leave you think, "Wow, I didn't get a word in."  Maybe that is how God feels about us.

We sit down to pray and we tell God all about our problems (things He already knows in fact) and all about every little thing in our lives.  We talk the whole time and never pause to let God get a word in.  Of course we need to praise and thank God for who He is and what He has done.  And yes we need to present our requests to God, as in Philippians 4:6.  But God also likes to talk to us.  He wants to speak to us.  Whether it is with an audible voice, a scripture that touches us, a feeling in our heart or just through sitting in His presence.  No matter how God talks to you, know that He does want to talk to you.  One of my many favorite verses is Psalm 46:10, "Be still and know I am God."  Be still and just be in His presence.  Give God the chance to speak to you.

There is a Mercy Me song that I truly love.  Every single time I hear it, no matter what time of day or where I am, it draws me to tears.

I'm finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it's okay
The last thing I need is to be heard
But to hear what You would say

Word of God speak
Would You pour down like rain
Washing my eyes to see
Your majesty
To be still and know
That You're in this place
Please let me stay and rest
In Your holiness
Word of God speak

I'm finding myself in the midst of You
Beyond the music, beyond the noise
All that I need is to be with You
And in the quiet hear Your voice

I'm finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it's okay

  1. Thank you for today's words. The last several mornings when I would try to pray I just didn't know what to say to God. Perhaps I just need to set in His presence and listen to Him.
