Sharing Your Walk

Recently singer Jeremy Riddle posted this status update to Facebook:

"In your personal pursuit of God, don't leave your kids behind. Take them with you. Share your spiritual life with them."

That really hit me.

We know that we need to pursue God.  We know that we need to spend time with Him.  But are we taking are kids along with us?  Or are we just focusing on our own relationship with Christ?

One of the sweet ladies in my accountability group is doing the Bible in 90 days reading plan.  Her twelve year old is doing it with her.  Amazing!  What is even more amazing is that they actually discuss the reading together.  That is something this child will remember all of her life.  She is definitely taking her daughter with her on her pursuit of Christ!

How can we take our kids on our journey to Christ with us?

Read the Word together, talk about God together, pray together, pray for your child, ask your child to pray for you, and share with them what God is doing in your life.

You may one day wake up and regret not praying with your child, or not talking about your praise reports with your child, but you will never, ever regret sharing your spiritual life with them.

Today I challenge you to take time out to talk to your children, no matter their age, about your relationship with God.  Share something God is doing in your life or what you are reading in the Word.

Sweet Blessings~

  2. I try to incorporate God into our conversations always. We pray together, but it could be more! I've done a couple of studies with my oldest and it's true, that time is so sweet! I'm encouraging my oldest to keep her own record of blessings in a journal on her nightstand... at this point I have to remind her to write something down each day, but I think she will be so blessed by that book one day :) Great encouragement, thanks Jenifer!

  3. What a great post! My 8 year old has just started having her own quiet time and I always love hearing what she reads and how the Lord speaks to her.

Also, you have an adorable blog!

I'm visiting from Thought Provoking Thursday!

  5. A beautiful truth! I just blogged the other day about remembering my mom as a woman of interceding prayer (When Embers Fly), and one time when she led me in my own intercessor's heart (I was only about 8)- and the miracle answer to our prayers. But more than anything, I am grateful for my mom who led me to join in her own beautiful faith. Thanks for spurring your readers on in the same legacy!

  6. This is excellent. I think many parents (and I admit to being somewhat this way when my kids were young) think that their children are going to "get it" - get God - get saved - through osmosis... Just being at church, Sunday school, other services, hanging out with other parishioners kids.... It's up to the parents to share the REAL FAITH, our REAL God... EXCELLENT POST :)

  7. Powerful words. I have to daily remind myself to do this. Like you said, I don't want to wake up one day and regret the missed moments! I need to take advantage of the time I have with them now, before it slips away.
