MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR HOURS

School is officially back in full swing!

Your kiddos are gone for roughly eight hours of the day for school and sleep another eight or so hours. That leaves only eight hours, at most, to spend with them. In my case, we homeschooled our children so while we are together all day, we are not necessarily together because we are still working.

Let's look at that eight hours left in the day. And remember that the eight hours is being generous because most kids sleep more than eight hours. Within that eight or so hours is homework, dinner, showers, chores, preparing for the next day of school, etc. So let's take that eight hours down to about five. Again, being generous as sometimes that homework can take a long time.

Five hours. Five hours to be with your children each day. That is all.

Make the most of your hours. #family #parenting #motherhood

That is not figuring in sports, music lessons, etc. On the nights your children have activities, your five hours is drastically cut down.

What do you do with that five hours? Is the tv on? Is everyone off in their own world of cell phones, iPads, gaming systems, and computers? What are you doing during these short hours to connect with your children? What are you doing to invest in their life? If you homeschool or choose online school enrollment, you will have more time with your children every day and get to watch them grow.

It can be so easy at the end of a long day to unwind in front of the tv. It can be so easy to catch up on social media and share about our day with the world around  us. But what about those precious faces right there in your home?

A number of years ago when our kids were still young, I bought a 1000 piece puzzle. We hadn't done a puzzle in a little awhile and I wanted an activity that required us working together. We sat down that evening and worked together on this puzzle. For the next two weeks, each evening after dinner we would sit down and work together. We would laugh and joke, share stories of our day, and tease each other. The tv was off, computers were off, cell phones we in the other room. It was just the family connecting as one. And it was beautiful. My husband and I looked forward to that time as a family all day. I cherish that time and the memories.

One day you will look around and our children will be grown, it will happen, believe me. The house will be silent. You will wonder where the time went. You will think back on those memories filed away. What will your memories be of? Laughing over a board game? Working a puzzle together? After dinner walks with the family? Or everyone off doing their own thing? Everyone quiet because someone had to see a tv show?

You only have a few hours a day to be a family. Don't waste it.

TIPS FOR THE NEW HOMESCHOOL FAMILY

Things are a little crazy in our world right now. Stores are being shut down, grocery shelves are empty, we have a gathering limit, and now schools are shut down. In my city, schools have shut down for the remainder of the year. Children must now stay home and be homeschooled. Our education system is working on the best possible plan for this impossible situation.

For some of us, like my family, homeschool is nothing new. We have been homeschooling for fourteen years. If you have suddenly found yourself a homeschool family, I'd like to share a few tips that have helped me throughout the years.

Get up and get ready. I know that it is so very easy to sleep in and stay in pajamas all day long. But I also know that once you are able to get out of the house and back to normal, it is much harder to break that habit than it was to create it. So set your alarm and this is also a great time to teach your kids how to set their own alarm clock and wake up to it! Get up at a normal hour, whether that is 6am for your family or 8am, just get up at a decent hour. Everyone get teeth brushed, dressed, the whole bit. You will feel better and be more productive if you are fully ready and you will not have to worry about breaking any bad habits later on.

Do chores. Mornings before school, when you leave the house, can be very hectic and rushed. For a lot of families that means chores do not get done. Give each person a chore that needs to be done before breakfast. It can be making their own bed and picking up their own room or feeding a pet or emptying the dishwasher, one quick chore before breakfast helps the house to stay picked up a little better and teaches responsibility. It is also good to set an afternoon chore or afternoon pickup time. When my kids were little they had a chore to be completed before breakfast, then in the afternoon we did a "ten count cleanup." Everyone had to walk through the house and clean up ten things. This was a huge help in keeping the house together. While chores are a normal part of the family dynamic, everyone needs to pitch in and help, they are also part of school. Chores teach life skills.

Limit tv. During time at home it is easy to catch up on your tv shows or just relax and watch some tv. This is another habit that can be hard to break. Consider allowing just one show during the day. My kids were allowed to each choose one show to watch or to work together and choose one movie for the day.

Have a routine. Having a routine is so important. If you don't have a routine, important things can be forgotten. Plus, kids have a routine at school so why not at home? Have a time to get up and ready, a time for chores, a time for meals, a time for school work, a quiet time, add whatever fits your family, just have a routine. Also, make sure they are still going to bed at their regular bed time. While a routine is important, so is flexibility. Sometimes our routines need to be adjusted a little.

Have a quiet time. No, your kids don't get a quiet time at school but when at home it can be a huge help to you! For one hour, or whatever fits your family, everyone goes into their own room and does something quiet. My daughters always wanted to read and my sons always wanted to play with hotwheels racing them on their pillows. When they were younger, they often fell asleep. This is another great time to use the alarm clock. Tell them they must stay in their room until the alarm goes off. This quiet time allows you to work, if you are working from home, catch up on laundry, start dinner, or whatever else you need to do without distraction.

Limit snacks. Kids at home like to snack! Oh my word! They are asking for a snack while you're still cleaning up breakfast. An hour later they want to know what is for lunch, and it continues all day long. One way to combat the constant asking and snacking is to get a basket for each child in the home. In the morning, or the night before, put a couple items in each basket. For example, each basket gets an apple, a bag of fruit chews, a cookie, and a cup (this way they only use one cup in the day and not ten). Whatever is in their basket, they can eat. When their snacks are gone, they are done. They will quickly learn to ration themselves so they have snacks all day, and if they don't, that is their fault.

For school work, find what works best for your family. When we first started homeschooling I got a school desk and chair for each child. We had a room that was our schoolroom, nothing happened in this room except school. With a bookshelf, the American Flag, and tons of school supplies, I was thrilled. After a couple of years I realized that my kids, especially my boys, actually worked better at the kitchen table. So we did away with our school desks and used the room for something else. It may take a week or two to figure out what works best for your children. If you have a space that can be just for school, give it a try! You can also try the kitchen table, or even the couch. That is the beauty of homeschool.

Be creative. When cooking, have your kids help you. They are learning a life skill, they are learning science, and they are learning math. When grocery ads come, have your kids compare prices. Have older kids help younger kids with school work. There are so many ways to be creative with learning.

Have P.E. While at home, don't skip P.E. Actually, this may be when they need it most! Weather permitting, schedule outside time every day. They can play in the yard or ride bikes in the driveway. When weather doesn't permit, if you have space, do P.E. inside. It can even be aerobics. It will be so good for them and help get any energy out.

Do what you can, get help when you can't. Throughout our elementary years, I was fine teaching my kids. Middle school wasn't bad either. But high school. Ugh. High school math has nearly killed me. When my kids started high school, we transitioned from traditional homeschool to virtual homeschool. At first I was heartbroken, thinking I had failed them. But I soon realized that I wasn't failing them, but helping them. Why struggle to teach them what I can't. Teach your kids what you can, get help when you can't. Their school teacher may be willing to do a facetime with you guys or find a friend or family member who knows the subject and ask for help. This is a great way to trade with another mother. Maybe you are really good at science but struggle in history and another mom is great with history but struggles with science. Facetime each other to help each other out.

Forgive. You are facing a new adventure. It won't always be easy, but you can do this. When you fail, forgive yourself and get back at it. If you wrong your kids, ask forgiveness and move forward. When your kids fail, forgive them and move on. Don't stress yourself out.

I promise, you will get through this. We will all get through this crisis. Let's trust God, be wise, and stay calm.

If you are a veteran homeschool parent, what other tips would you add? Please share in the comments!

THE BEAUTIFUL THINGS WE MISS

After I finish my morning devotions, I pick up my phone. It's time to peek at Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and check email. The time flies by and before I know it, I've spent too many minutes of my morning on social media.

I finally set my phone aside only to hear the ping of Facebook. So, I pick the phone back up to check. Twenty minutes later an email comes through. I am once again on the phone. Then the ding of Instagram. Back on the phone. Before I get the screened blacked out, Facebook pings again. And on the day goes. With every ding, ping, and buzz, I pick up the phone. After all, something needs my attention. It can't wait.

Or can it?

Throughout my years of handling a smart phone, I have learned to put the phone down and make eye contact with my loved ones as they speak to me. It is important to me. But lately, I have been wondering what I am missing even when they are not speaking to me.

My kids are older now. Honestly, I am grateful to God that smart phones didn't exist when they were little. What would I have missed? A first step? Yet, what am I missing now? My oldest daughter is engaged to be married. This is our last summer with her before handing her off to her husband to be. I don't want to miss any moments with her. I don't want to miss any moments with any of my children.

It's not just moments with my kids. I don't want to miss moments with my husband, my parents, or with any of my family. I don't want to miss sunrises and sunsets. I don't want to miss the wildflowers growing on the side of the road or fluffy clouds formed overhead.

These moments are important but in order to not miss them, I need to put my phone down and pull my eyes up.

Am I saying social media or technology is bad? No. In and of itself, it is not bad. I am not cancelling any of my social media accounts. So how am I putting my phone down and pulling my eyes up? I am turning off social media notifications on my phone. I will still check social media a couple of times throughout the day, but without the pings, dings, and buzzes, I won't be tempted to pick up my phone every five minutes.

Friends, I am not telling you to cancel your social accounts and I am not telling you to silence the notifications on your phone. What I am telling you to do is to evaluate how much you are on your phone (or tablet or computer, any device that takes your attention). Do the constant notifications distract you from what really matters in life? Are you missing moments with your family and friends just to scroll through memes, videos, and political arguments? Can you limit yourself or maybe take a phone free day once a week? What can you do to not miss the beautiful things?

Please share your own experiences in the comments. I'd love to hear how you have struggled or kept from struggling with this.

Matthew West's new song has been a huge for me. Matthew's words were confirmation of what God was already speaking to me. Please take a moment to listen.

LIKE ARROWS {GIVEAWAY}

My babies aren't babies anymore. My oldest is already twenty and my youngest fifteen. People say don't blink because it goes by so fast, they couldn't be more correct. The years have flown by. With my oldest away at college, I often think over the twenty years of raising her and her siblings. Was there anything I missed in teaching them? Where did I lack? Did I mess anything up? Did I say anything that deeply hurt them? I pray to God to fill in any gaps I left, I thank Him for grace, and I praise Him that it is never too late.

Family Life has a new movie, Like Arrows, all about raising children and the legacy we leave them.

When conflict, rebellion, and resentment overwhelm their family, Charlie and Alice are forced to rethink their parenting strategy. In the process, they realize how critical intentionality and focus are when shaping and molding young lives. Family Life’s first feature film explores the challenges and joys that come with raising children. Through a journey that unfolds over 50 years, Charlie and Alice discover the unmistakable power of family. Together, they learn that knowing and living by God’s Word is what brings transformation and hope to any family.

Like Arrows encouraged, inspired, convicted, and challenged me in my parenting. As Charlie and Alice go through the years of parenthood, you will see yourself at some point. It may be their highs, it may be their lows, but it will likely be a good mix of both. You will end the movie challenged and ready to make a change for the better.

Whether you are thinking of having children, have little ones, have school aged kids, have teens, have adult children, or have grandchildren, this movie is a must see. It will change your life and your legacy in the best possible way.

Here is Matt Hammitt's new song Like Arrows:

I encourage you to check out the 8 day YouVersion Bible reading plan and study for Like Arrows. From the YouVersion app, search Like Arrows or click HERE.

Share something you are praising God. I would love to rejoice with you.

**********

Family is so important to me. It has always been. Our family has been blessed in that everyone lives close. We all live within thirty minutes of each other and we get together often. My husband's side of the family also lives within thirty minutes of each other, however, we had gotten into a rough habit of not seeing each other often. Last month we lost my mother-in-law. It has been so hard, but it has also helped all of us to see the importance of family and we've become closer. Just this past weekend we had my husband's sister and brother and their spouses and kids over for dinner. It was incredible to have everyone under the same roof just being together. Family is everything.

I want my kids to understand this truth about family. I want them to feel the blessing of family. So does Hannah C. Hall. In her adorable children's book God Bless My Family, Hannah helps our little one see the blessing that family is. Not just mom, dad, brother, and sister, but also aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. This fun book with animal families will help your child understand and love the blessing of family that God has given us.

FINDING THE BLESSING FROM THE MESS

This morning I woke up after only 5 hours of sleep. 5 very restless hours. I am exhausted. Dark circles and bags under my eyes, body sore, I feel like I could fall asleep and sleep for days. Yet I make my way through the house to begin my day. My bedroom has a large pile of dirty clothes that need to be washed sitting on the floor and a large pile of clean clothes on the dresser that I need to fold and put away. I walk into the kitchen and see a sink full of dirty dishes and a dishwasher full of more dirty dishes. I go to start the dishwasher, thinking I'll tackle the sink later, yet I find that I am out of dish soap. I look at my kitchen. Cups everywhere, a gallon of sweet tea left out of the icebox, crumbs on the table and a trashcan so full the lid is hanging off. I groan. My house was spotless just 2 days ago! Then I walk through the dining room and see 2 bags sitting there from our Independence Day celebrations. I know those bags hold many items that need to be washed and put away. Then I enter the living room. This room isn't too bad. Mostly it just needs to be dusted and vacuumed. But I think of all this that needs to be done and I think of how insanely tired I am. I begin to have feelings of anger, sadness, I am not really sure what you'd call these feelings. But they are not joyful, grateful feelings.

Then I feel God prick my heart. He reminded me of my yesterday. Of getting to sleep in with my husband by my side. Of having a day with my grandparents, parents, siblings and their crews, my husband and my kids. Of hearing the laughter and splashes of my kids and nieces and nephews swimming. Of eating my favorite summer foods, fried green tomatoes, watermelon, and homemade ice cream. Of coming home for an afternoon nap before our evening events started. Of watching fireworks with friends. Of watching my 4 teenagers sit on a blanket on the grass talking and laughing. My heart goes from bitterness of these messes and my tired eyes to full of the great blessings He has given me.

Those piles of dirty clothes, that sink full of dishes and bags of things to be put away are all reminders that our family had a great holiday. That we were blessed. Sometimes we need to step back from the mess and see the blessing. A sink full of dishes is a reminder that we have been blessed with food. Think of all those who are starving, not hungry but literally starving. Those wet towels and bathing suits are reminders of fun and laughter. The late night is a reminder that we celebrated with family and friends. It is hard to grumble and complain when we are busy counting our blessings.

Today I challenge you to step away from the mess and look at it. Really look at it. What blessing is that mess showing you?

GROVE COLLABORATIVE {$10 OFF}

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31

As a homemaker, I am always looking for better ways to take care of my family and my home because I want to glorify God in my homemaking. Today I want to share with you an amazing company I recently discovered that helps me do just that.

Now, here is my disclaimer. Before you think my family is an all-natural, green family, please know, that is just not true. We do not use only reusable or recycled materials, we are not vegan, we are not vegetarian, we aren't even gluten free. As a matter of fact, we use paper plates, plastic silverware, and paper napkins for breakfast and lunch. Don't judge. I cook three meals a day and doing dishes three times a day holds less appeal than a root canal. However, we use the real dishes and cloth napkins at dinner, so that counts right? While my family is not all-natural, and I doubt we ever will be, every little but helps. When we choose an all-natural cleaner over a chemical cleaner, it helps. When we recycle our boxes instead of trash them, it helps. When we choose something made from recycled material instead of new material, it helps. When we make sure to turn lights off when we leave a room, it helps. Every little bit helps.

Recently I discovered Grove Collaborative. Grove is an amazing company! Before I tell you about the products, let me tell you about the customer service. Customer service is very important to me and will either sell me on a company or force me to turn my back on a company. Grove's customer service is incredible. With my first shipment, there was an item missing. I contacted customer service via email and they replied within a few hours apologizing and letting me know they were shipping the missing item out immediately. There have been a couple other times I had questions and contacted the company, they always answered quickly and made sure I was satisfied.

I also love that Grove does all of the hard work for me. Researching companies, product and ingredients is time consuming. Grove does all of the research for us. They do the work to find amazing, affordable and effective natural products. Grove is dedicated to helping everyone create a healthy, beautiful home. They grew out of a simple belief: the best natural products for your home and family should be the easiest to get.

Of all the natural product lines Grove sells, Mrs. Meyers is one I've been wanting to try for a long time. I was not disappointed! I am in love with Mrs. Meyers products! The dish soap, hand soap and hand lotion are amazing. And I love the multi purpose cleaner. It means so much to me to know that I can have a beautiful smell while using an all natural cleaner that works.  I was nervous about trying the Mrs. Meyers hand lotion. I am super picky about the lotions I use, but I love it!  I also tried a few Method products. I love the Method glass cleaner, it smells so good! I did not like the smell of the Method bathroom cleaner and will likely get extra Mrs. Meyers for bathroom use next time.

When my husband heard me talk about this company, he was afraid it was going to be expensive. However, the price of the products are very comparable to what you would purchase at Walmart, Target or your grocery store. Why not pay the same price and get all natural products? When I told him the price was the same as what I would normally pay, he then was afraid the products weren't going to work well. I can honestly say the products work great! The first day I used Mrs Meyer's dish soap, I purposely let a dinner pan sit out over night. I wanted to really test this soap. The dish soap got the tough, baked on dish clean without any scrubbing. All of the cleaners work like this. Is it weird to say I enjoy cleaning now?

Lastly, I love the Grove monthly shipments. Each month Grove automatically fills your shopping cart with the products you buy. Don't worry, you can remove them at any time. You will receive an email before your items ship so you can adjust your cart as you need. I've actually had fun playing with this, guessing what I'll need next month. And if you sign up as a VIP for only $19.00 a year, you get free unlimited shipping, free gifts every 3 months, and early access to new products. The VIP service is definitely worth it!

Think you are ready to try Grove now? Just click this link and get $10 OFF your order!

Bible Belles is a five book series, Esther being book two, about the adventures of Rooney Cruz as she learns about five superhero women of the Bible: Hannah, Esther, Abigail, Ruth and Deborah. In Esther, Rooney learns how to have patience in handling her conflict, just as Esther did in the Bible.

Why I Have Snapchat & Let My Daughter Have One

About 5 years ago Snapchat came on the social media scene. I didn't know anything about it but decided that I seriously didn't need another social media or another app. A short time later I heard about the app and immediately decided that no one in my house would have this app. Ever.

One thing that bothered me about Snapchat is that predators are out there lurking, just waiting to get a hold of our kids. Could we possibly keep them safe on Snapchat? On Facebook, Instagram and Twitter I know the settings, I know how to lock things up tight so that only their friends can see their posts and their location will not be found. But could I do that on Snapchat? It concerned me. But the thing that bothered me the most was the whole basis of what Snapchat is. You send a picture or 10 second video. Once the picture or video is viewed, it 'magically' disappears. Basically they are saying, send what you want, do what you want, say what you want, it goes away anyway, no one will know. In this world of cyber bullying and s*xting, that is super scary. It gives this sense that there are no consequences for your actions. Truth is, there are always consequences, some good and some bad depending on your action. I don't want my kids thinking that it doesn't matter what they say and do because they think no one will find out. I want them to know that the truth will always come out and that inappropriate behavior of any kind is absolutely unacceptable.

For almost 5 years we completely avoided Snapchat. Until I got it.

A few months ago a friend's teen posted something on Instagram that was questionable. Worried for this teen, who is a friend to my kids, I decided to do some digging. I was in full on mama-bear, private-investigator mode. If there was something to be found, I was going to find it. Knowing by the filter being used, this was a Snapchat pic. So I downloaded the app just to do some investigating. After a few minutes, I realized I wouldn't be able to see anything anyway. For one, this teen would have to directly send something to me, which they didn't, or it would have to be on their story (like a newsfeed), which disappears after a day. So my search was halted. I decided for now to keep the app and check it daily to see if there was anything that I needed to show the mom. After a week or so, nothing came up. It was time to commit this to prayer and wait on God.

In the meantime, I had quite a few friends and fellow bloggers add me. I was shocked to see how many people actually had Snapchat. My sister included, she's the very last person I'd ever expect to have a Snapchat account! She couldn't even figure out Instagram! I looked at few snaps from my friends and found it to actually be fun. The filters are hilarious! And so many of my friends on Snapchat are more "silly" than on any other social media platform. It was fun to see this side of my friends. I decided to keep the app for a little while to watch my friends.

My daughter was shocked to see the Snapchat app on my phone. Once her shock wore off, she asked if she could have one too. Since my daughter is 18 and graduated from high school, we decided to let her make the decision. First, we firmly reminded her to:

  1. Snap wisely. Every choice you make has a consequence. Just because something goes away on Snapchat, doesn't mean it goes away. Anyone can screenshot your picture. I screenshot almost every snap my daughter sends me. I jokingly say that I am doing it to show her future husband, but the truth is, Snapchat sends a notification when someone screenshots your snap and I want her to always remember that it can be done. Besides, in the 5 years Snapchat has been around, I've heard a couple of times about the app being hacked and the hackers getting images that already 'disappeared.' Once something is out there, it really is out there forever. Luke 8:17 tells us that everything done will be found out. Besides, remember that God sees and knows all!
  2. Be safe. Not only should you not send any s*xual images or bullying images -that's not who you are and not who you should become- you should not receive them. If you see any, report it immediately. Report to me or to Snapchat, just report! If someone you don't know contacts you, ignore them. If they persist or ask for explicit images, report it to me and/or Snapchat. (Fyi, this happens on all social media sites, not just Snapchat!)
  3. Remember Philippians 4:8. It is a joke with my kids that every time they leave the house or do anything, I say "remember Philippians 4:8." Why do I say this? Because Philippians 4:8 tells us that we need to think on things that are true, noble, pure, just, lovely, of good report, and praise worthy. If it is not those things, we should not be doing, saying, or thinking it. Period. When we watch a tv show, we ask if it lines up with this verse. Before we say something, we ask if it lines up with this verse. So in regards to Snapchat, before we snap, we ask if it lines up with this verse.

It's all about how you use it. Just like a pencil doesn't make mistakes, it's the person using the pencil who messes up and a gun doesn't shoot someone, it's the one using the gun who shoots it, Snapchat itself is not bad. Was it created to be something bad? I honestly don't know. I assumed it was, but I do not know the creator so I don't have the right to guess. What I can do is use the app carefully and in an appropriate way and teach my daughter to do the same. We have not yet let our other teens get the app (their phones do not download any apps until I put a code in). In the meantime, they love playing on mine and sending silly pics to their cousins and Nana.

I am truly having fun with Snapchat. I love sending silly pictures to my sisters for my nieces and nephews each morning to say "hi" and getting their silly replies. Whether you have one, don't have one, on the fence about it, or have avoided it like the plague as I did, remember that it's all about how you use it. All social media outlets can be bad if we let them. And more important, remember, God knows all, God sees all. If you wouldn't "snap" it to Jesus, don't snap it!

Share your own thoughts on Snapchat or any social media in the comments!

Teaching Them To Follow Jesus {Giveaway}

If you were to ask your child today what it means to follow Jesus, what would they say?

Would your child think it means going to church? Saying a prayer before eating dinner? Bedtime prayers? Not saying bad words? Listening to Klove?

Our children have different views on what it means to follow Jesus. As parents, it is our job to make sure they understand the truth. Please notice I said it is our job as parents. It is not the job of the Sunday School teacher, the Children's Pastor, or even the Christian School teacher. Those positions are to come along side and help you in teaching your kids about God. But the lead role lies in your hands alone.

We need to teach our children that to follow Jesus means to say the sinner's prayer giving Him our heart. Then to trust in Him, love Him, and live like Him.

How can we teach this to our kids? Be a living example.

The relationship your child has with Jesus is the most important one he will ever have. That relationship will guide all of his other relationships. Mom, Dad, are you ready to teach your child what it means to follow Jesus?

I Will Follow Jesus Bible Storybook will help your children learn about the most important relationship they can ever have. This Bible storybook will show your kids the characteristics of Jesus. This adorable storybook is the perfect addition to your family's Bible time. Read the Bible story and devotion and talk about following Jesus.

5 Ways To Study & Understand The Bible {Giveaway}

The Bible is this massive size book with hard to pronounce names and sometimes, even harder to understand verses. Yet the Bible is our love letter from God. Our instruction manual for life. Our daily bread. We need the Word.

So how can we study the Bible?

Here are 5 ways that I have found help me study and understand the Word of God.

  1. Read the information before the book. For most of my life I simply dove into a book of the Bible without reading all of the info. I never even knew who wrote many of the books. However, I have come to realize that the info there is so important. You can find out who wrote the book, who they were writing to, the time frame and so much more. It is great information to help you get started in each book.
  2. Utilize YouVersion. So many of the Bible names are hard to pronounce. When I was a child, one of my Sunday School teachers told us to replace those hard names with your own name. While it may be okay for awhile, I think it's important to know the names. God put those names in there for a reason, we should know them. One thing we love to do in our home is when we come across a hard to pronounce name, we open up the YouVersion Bible app, tap in the Scripture reference and let YouVersion read it to us. Then we hear exactly how to pronounce those names!
  3. Read the commentary. I have a study Bible with commentary at the end of each page. It has great information that helps explain what is going on at the time. Sometimes you read a Scripture and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The commentary explains how things were in that time which gives you a better understanding of the verse.
  4. Cross reference. Have you ever wondered what all those teeny tiny numbers and letters mixed in the verses were? Many Bibles have a center column with related verses. Find the correlating letters and numbers and it will take you to the related verses to give you a more in depth study.
  5. Journal. I love journaling things that God spoke to me as I read. But it's also great to write things down that you may not understand. As you write them, read the commentary on them and cross reference them, pray and ask God to give you understanding. He will reveal to you what He wants you to glean from the verses.
Studying the Bible is a great way to learn about God and know His heart. Don't give up because you don't understand what you read or know how to study. Press in.

Today I want to share with you the #1 best selling devotional, Jesus Calling. After many years of writing in her prayer journal, missionary Sarah Young, decided to be more attentive to the voice of God and began listening to what He was saying. So with pen in hand, she embarked on a journey that forever changed her life...and the lives of millions around the world.

In these powerful pages are the words and Scriptures Jesus lovingly laid on her heart. Words of reassurance, comfort, and hope, Words that have made her increasingly aware of His presence and allowed her to enjoy His peace.

Based on Jesus Calling, Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions for Kids has been adapted in a language and fashion that kids and tweens can relate to in their every day lives.

Jesus is calling out to you in the same. Do you hear Him calling?
