Let Me Help You Carry Your Burden

Numbers 11 tells us the story of Moses and the Israelites. The Israelites were tired of eating manna. They complained that they had their fill of meat and fruits and all they could want even while slaves in Egypt. Yet here in their "freedom" they were limited to a small amount of manna.

Moses was so tired of the complaining. He was just a man, yet he was in charge of all these people and all they did was fuss. Moses finally did the only thing he knew how to do. He prayed.

He asked the Lord, "Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease You that You put this burden of all these people on me? Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the land You promised on oath to their ancestors? Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me, 'Give us meat to eat!' I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me. If this is how You are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me - if I have found favor in Your eyes - and do not let me face my own ruin."
Numbers 11:11-15

Moses told God that he just couldn't handle this burden alone. He even told God to just kill him! But what does God do? He doesn't kill him or even ignore him. He gave him help.

The Lord said to Moses: "Bring me seventy of Israel's elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you. I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.
Numbers 11:16-17

Friends, we don't have to carry our burden alone. God is waiting there to help us. And so many times His help comes in the form of other faithful people. People to stand by your side, to hold your hand, to help you with your tasks, to pray with you, and to listen.

Stop trying to do it all alone. God didn't intend for us to do this life alone. Tell God your burden, tell Him exactly what you need. If you need someone to come along side you, tell Him. He will hear you and He will send someone to your side.

Let's take Moses' lead and seek help carrying our burdens.

  1. Great point here, Jennifer. You are so right, God does not want us to carry our burden alone. I am so prone to do this. Thanks for this needed reminder. I am your neighbor at W2W lilnkup.
