Seeking Protection

When my kids were younger I was a very paranoid mother. I, of course, needed to sleep at some point but I felt like I should be awake watching over my kids at all times. I was so paranoid, in fact, that I put an angel figurine in each window of their bedrooms and loud toys underneath their windows. My thinking was if someone were to try to get in their window I would hear the angel figurine fall and crash into those loud toys and it would wake me up. (Crazy, I know!) I also had baby monitors in the bedrooms and would have it as close as possible to my ear and as loud as it would go. I just really needed to watch over my kids!

Then one day I read this scripture. Psalm 121 says"I lift up my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth. He will not let your foot slip, He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you, the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm, He will watch over your life, the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forever more."

I don't have to worry or be paranoid. I have to get sleep (actually I love to sleep). God does not. God is watching over my kids whether they are at my side and we are playing or whether we are in our own bedrooms sleeping. God is watching over us at all times. It is a relief to know that I don't have to do it all. God is there watching us every second of every day. That does not mean we can be careless, but it does mean we do not need to worry or fear. God created us, loves us and is protecting us. Now I can sleep peacefully knowing God is protecting my family at all times. Thank You God!

A repost from 2010, because I need this reminder sometimes.

  1. That God is our protection is getting more and more real with a granddaughter that will be heading to college soon! Thank the Lord for His watchful eye!
