Fear. It has been at my side for many years of my life. Sometimes it's my silent companion. Sometimes it screams so loud I can't hear myself think. As a child, I struggled sleeping because of fear caused by a story going around the playground. As a wife I feared harm had come to my husband every time he was late. As a mother I feared harm coming to my kids in the night and my kids falling off the balcony at hotels. After being smack dab in the middle of a tornado, I feared every storm that raged outside my door.

I want to be fearless, yet fear followed me everywhere I went. I would pray and beg God to give me a sense of peace. The peace didn't always come instantly. In her new book Live Fearless, Sadie Robertson says, "If you're waiting for a sense of peace to come so you can deal with your fear, you could be waiting a long time. If you will be brave and march straight into that fearful situation having faith that God will bring you through it, that's probably where you'll find the peace you're looking for."

We just need to push on. I fear balconies with kids on them. Instead of being afraid or avoiding them, I put rules on them. Rules like no kids on the balcony without an adult, no pushing chairs to the edge of the balcony, and no leaning over the balcony. Instead of being afraid when my husband doesn't walk through the door at the time I expect, I pray that he is safe and trust God to keep him. Sadie tells us, "The key ingredient to overcoming fear is not just speaking to it, it's speaking to it in Jesus name." I speak to the fear in Jesus name and trust God.

Sadie also tells us what to do when we get that first hint of fear. She says, "When a scary thought first works its way into your brain, you have a choice. You can camp out on that thought in your mind, or you can deal with it right away to keep it from becoming bigger and scarier than it already is."

If you or someone you love struggles with fear, Live Fearless is a must read. Sadie walks you through how to live fearless by sharing her own experiences, how she has overcome fear, and Scripture to use in times of fear. To purchase Live Fearless, click HERE or the image below.
