Media Monday - Conclusion

Today I am posting a Marriage Monday over at Woman to Woman, join us!

For the past six weeks we have been discussing how social media affects our walk with God, marriage, parenting, homemaking, friendships and our health.

I have said it over and over, social media is not a bad thing.  I heart social media!  But as with anything, it needs to be used wisely and in moderation.

While social media is a good thing, here are a few things to remember:
  • Always spend time with God before heading to the cell or computer.  If you are tempted, place your Bible on top of your computer or cell as a reminder that God is first.
  • Remember to turn off the computer, cell and even tv and give your spouse some one on one time.
  • Be sure to give your kids some undivided attention.  Try to avoid the "Hang on, let me finish this" and use eye contact.
  • Social media can be a distraction when it comes time to care for the home.  Try turning it off and focus on getting your work completed.
  • Social media is wonderful to stay connected to friends and family, but nothing compares to face to face time!
  • Take time out each week to turn off the social media and move!  Get out and enjoy nature with a walk.
What are your thoughts?  Have you changed any social media habits during this series?  Do you find your are more conscience of your time spent on social media?

Here is one last thought for you:  If Jesus had a Facebook, would you be comfortable requesting Him as a friend with all you have on your page?

Sweet Blessings~

  2. Love it! I used to put my bible on top of my computer for that very reason. Now, I just can't forget that important and special time of the day! Thanks for the reminder!

  3. While I usually achieve my goals each day including a quiet time, I do not always start there before having the laptop open. I have done this before (when I was reading through the Bible in 90 days) and know the power it holds. Great advice.

  5. We can't blame social media for our problems or lack of there is..if our lives become less and less time spent with family then we are to blame because we allow ourselves to be so plugged into them that we forget what is really important. I am glad you brought this question up..awhile back I saw a question someone posed about does Fb destroys a marriage and my respond was no...it's the people who spend entirely too much time on these sites that are destroying their own marriages...We can't be so consumed with spending all our time on network sites that we neglect our home...one must find and have a balance...if we really knew how much time a person spends on social sites we can surely understand why the enemy used these tools to distract us...great post

  6. This is such a great reminder, my friend. I have much more vigilant about doing everything before having computer time. Because I have a blog, I have to be really careful about this. Or else I would do a post before anything else. I refuse to allow it to become that important to me. Tha tis one reason that I don't post on Mondays right now.
It's an important message in the social media frenzied world that we live in.
    Hugs, Cindy

  7. This is a great reminder to keep God first. I agree. Social media doesn't have to be bad. I spend time alone with God before I turn the computer on or answer phone calls. Thats why I like the early morning...before the crazy begins:)

  10. Jenifer,

I agree social media in itself isn't bad, but we can start falling down the slippery slope when start to replace the things in our lives, such as God time, family time, with our social media frenzy. Social media is a great way to stay connected but it should not be the only thing that keeps us connected.

    Blessings to you Jenifer.

  11. What a wonderful conclusion to your series Jenifer! Your points through these posts have been excellent, and well-balanced. As you've noted more than once, social media isn't a bad thing.. in fact it has remarkable potential for positive ends. It is however, essential to place it in the appropriate context, and to make sure it doesn't fall into the wrong priority position in our lives.

    Have a Blessed Day!

  12. This has been a good series for me. I have to admit I didn't do the last two but I did participate in the others. Although, in my opinion, the good outweighs the bad, we do have to keep our priorities in line. That goes for any thing that occupies our minds and time.

  13. I love the challenge to seek God first and most and let social media keep its' proper place. Then it become a tool of God's message instead of a hindrance to it!

(Followed your FB page while I was here. :) )
