The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for joy

Worry = Sin

Click HERE to enter the giveaway for a signed copy of Easter Is About Jesus.

I am currently reading Francis Chan's book Crazy Love.  I have read this book before but this time I am blessed to be reading with my Bible study girls at church.  Last night before bed I was reading chapter two and Chan made the above statement and I felt like I was being punched in the gut.  Yes, I read this book before and I am sure I read that line, but maybe it just didn't register with me then?  But this time, I just feel like I want to cry my eyes out.

Worry implies that we don't quite trust God is big enough or powerful enough to take care of what's happening in our lives.

You see, I tend to worry.  I don't mean to.  I don't want to.  But, often I do.

I say God is big.  I say God is powerful.  I thought I believed that.  I do believe that.

So why do I let worry come in?  I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I can count on God.  I know that God will never leave me.  I know God is always by my side.  I know that God promises in His Word to take care of me according to His riches in glory.  Those are solid promises.  There is no room for doubt there.

When we are facing something, anything at all, we can fully trust in God to take care of it.  No matter how big or small it seems, He is there.  It's a promise.  When worry tries to sneak in, let's commit to turning to the Word of God and turning to prayer and worship.  Let's fully rely on God.  He has our backs.  Always.

but in every situation,
by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.

A happy heart makes the face cheerful,
but heartache crushes the spirit.
Proverbs 15:13

My very adorable nephew, he loves his picture taken :)

Our circumstances will not always be good.  Bad things will happen.  We will get stressed from time to time.  But when we have Christ in our heart and we are striving to live a life pleasing to Him, then we will have cheerful heart no matter what comes our way.  Let His joy show on your face today!

He Has Blessed Me!

Join me over at Woman to Woman as we continue to walk through the Love Dare together.

This week I have felt especially grateful to God.  He has greatly blessed me and sometimes it just overwhelms me.  Today I am continuing to count my blessings for 2012:

206. My children's drum lessons beginning.

207. Going cosmic bowling with dear friends.

208. Sleeping in after bowling late into the night.

209. My dad having having a fun night and coming in 2nd in the first race of the season.

210. A relaxing Saturday at home.

211. Safety from the storms crossing the Midwest.

212. Baskets at the dollar store (I love baskets for organizing!).

213. Homemade chocolate chip cookies.

214. My daughter having a safe and fun time at youth retreat.

215. Preparing for baseball practice starting this week.

217. Staff lunch and meeting with the incredible leaders of my church.

218. The sunshine that beams down on me and warms my skin.

219. My children knowing that they can go to God in prayer when they are fearful.

220. His grace.

221. His peace.

222. His joy.

What are you praising God for today?

"He is not here,
He has risen just as He said."
Matthew 28:6

Being raised in the church and in a Christian family, Easter was always a special time for me.  But a couple of years ago my relationship with Christ took a more intimate turn.  It was no longer about what Christ could do for me.  It was no longer about a Sunday morning/Wednesday night "thing."  It was now about a deep, personal connection with Christ.

Since then, Easter has taken on a whole new meaning for me.  It is about a true, unconditional, passionate love.  This week leading up to Easter, I encourage you to take time out of your meal planning, egg dying, church play practicing, fancy dress shopping, and all of those other things we do for Easter, and just spend some precious time praising the Lord for what He did for you.  This morning as I was praying I was thinking of all of the reasons why I do not deserve His sacrifice, but the reasons don't matter.  He loves me enough, even before I existed, that He was beaten and bruised for me. He was killed for me.  I was on His mind as He was being beaten and died.  You, my friend, were also on His mind.  He loves you so much that He was willing, He wanted to die for you.

Spend time thinking about that this week.  Praise Him for what He has done for you.

Draw Near to God

"Come near to God and He will come near to you.
Wash your hands, you sinners,
and purify your hearts, you double-minded."
James 4:8

Draw near to God, friends.  He wants to draw near to you.  Whether you are facing a difficult time or just feel like you are walking in a dry dessert, just draw near to God.  I love how Jeremy Riddle puts it in his song, Draw Near.  He says, pull on the strings of my heart for I long to respond to You.  Draw near to God and respond to His sweet presence.

Not me, though I will definitely
be wearing my straw cowgirl
hat with my new Embrace tee!

Recently I received a beautiful tee-shirt from Sandi over at The Olivetee.  The Olivetee aspires to share God's love through women of faith.  They do this by combining current Christian fashion trends with simple, encouraging messages from the Word of God.  Their Christian tee-shirt designs are classy with a modern vibe and the messages are simply powerful.  Sandi is so wonderful to work with and the quality of the shirts are incredible!  I have purchased tees in the past that after one wear, they no longer look nice.  That is not the case with the Olivetee!

Faithful in Prayer

Join me at Woman to Woman Ministries for a dangerous dare!

This short and to the point verse hold much power.

Be joyful in hope.  When we live for Christ, we have a joy and a hope that the world or another human cannot offer us.  The joy and hope of Christ are eternal, not temporal.

Be patient in affliction.  Trials will pass.  We are made stronger in affliction.  And we have peace in knowing God is there throughout the difficulties.

Be faithful in prayer.  The Lord desires to converse with us each and every day.  He delights in time spent with us through prayer and worship.

Winners of the How To Be A Best Friend Forever books are Sunny, Melissa from Live~Laugh~Love, and Tammy from Tammy's Simple Daybook.  Congrats!  Please email me with your address so the book can be mailed to you.

One Word With So Many To Choose From!?

Two years ago I heard, on the radio I think, about choosing one word to focus on for the new year.  I thought it was great and joined in.  The past few weeks I have been praying about what word to use for 2012.

As I prayed about my word, many words came to mind:

Focus - I need to focus more on homeschooling than my laptop.  I need to focus more on my husband than my cell phone.  I need to focus more on God than my problems.  I need to focus.

Unplug - I need to learn to unplug from my laptop and cell for a little bit each day.  I need to teach my daughter to unplug from her cell phone for a while.  I need to teach my kids to unplug from the tv/video games.  I need to unplug.

Growth - I need to grow in my walk with God.  I need to grow in my marriage.  I need to grow in my relationship with my kids.  I need to grow in better health.  I need growth.

Even with all of these great words, God always brought me back to one.  Then yesterday I read my sweet sister's blog and there was the word God had given me that I had been ignoring.  That was confirmation for me.  God said, "This is the word I have been giving you from the beginning, stop fighting Me on it."

No more fighting.  I am going to be intentional.

There are several reasons for this word.  To start with, the previous two years I focused on my word for only the first couple of months, then honestly, forgot all about it.  I can't even tell you what my word for 2010 even was!  I need to be intentional with my word.  After all, this is what God wants me to focus on.

I need to be intentional with homeschooling my children.  There are days when we just try to get done.  There is no fun object lessons or experiments or anything except rushing to just get done.  I need to be intentional in this area.

I need to be intentional in my marriage.  I need to plan more date nights, tell my husband how deeply I love him.  I need to snuggle up close to him and when he has a hard day, hold him instead of asking more of him.  I need to be intentional in my marriage.

I need to be in intentional in my relationship with my kids.  I always have great ideas of one on one time with each of them or conversations to have, but well, sometimes I get lazy or moody or whatever.  I try to keep calm and talk nicely to them, but sometimes I get mad.  I need to be intentional in my relationship with my kids.

I want to be in intentional in my marriage, family, relationships, ministries, time with God, homemaking, health, in life.

This year I will intentionally not forget my word.  I have it posted in a couple of places in my home, in my prayer journal, and on my computer.  I am ready to live life on purpose!

Do you choose one word to focus on for the year?  If so, what is your word?
